Hornetpaw was deep in thought, brow furrowed as she stared at the wall of the den. her tail still trailed on it, and she studied the cracks in it as she thought absentmindedly. Her ears twitched as she heard rustling behind her, and she turned on her heels to see Stormpaw trying to get up.
She smiled, then gasped under her breath when he almost fell. He had just come out of coma, after all, and she didn't want him to get hurt. Shaking the thoughts off, the she-cat padded up to him and pressed against him so he wouldn't fall.
Hornetpaw had heard him say her name the first time, and nudged his shoulder to let him know she had. Then she looked at him, surprised. He could hear me while he was in a coma? She mentally whacked herself, looking at him. Does it matter? He's sitting there waiting for an answer! She purred loudly, happy he was okay. "Thank Starclan you heard me, I wouldn't have the guts to say it again if you hadn't said that."

Stormpaw almost collapsed, waiting for Hornetpaw to finally reply, but the comforting purr that arose from her throat gave him some more energy. He saw the surprise in her eyes, and for a moment his breath caught in his throat. Had he just imagined Hornetpaw saying she loved him? That would've meant that he had just revealed something that would make both of them feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. Nervous, he felt his body heat up, and he realized that his fever must've been returning. But there was no time to think about that.
"W-wait.. d-did you r-really m-mean it?" he asked warily, confusion sparkling in his clouded eyes. He wanted ever so despreately for her to say yes, and that she would always be by his side. However, if he had been simply imagining things in his coma, then they might never be friends again if Hornetpaw decided that she didn't want to have someone love her.

Hornetpaw glanced over at her best friend, a expression of mock hurt on her face, like he had stung her. "No. I hate your guts," the she-cat licked Stormpaw's ear affectionately."Of course I meant it." She motioned for him to sit down, since she saw how weak he was.
She pressed her pelt against his, waiting for him to do what she asked. The apprentice was happy that the tom was awake, and the joy was evident in her eyes. She shook her black pelt, the tan ends sticking up. Calming a patch of fur down with a swift lick, she decided that she was lucky to have realized how much Stormpaw meant to her.
If she hadn't, she would have eventually. But when was eventually? When he got a mate? When he got seriously sick or injured again and died? She shuddered, trying to push the thought of him dying away. But as much as she tried, she couldn't. It kept annoying her at the back of her mind.

Stormpaw's jaws gaped for a heartbeat when Hornetpaw scowled at him, but then he relaxed in annoyance and relief when he realized that she was joking. Indeed, Stormpaw was a very gullible cat, which made him vulnurable to cruel tricksters or any other cat who would want to make fun of him. "C'mon, you know how I always believe what someone says," he grinned, ignoring that fact that he almost didn't believe Hornetpaw when she told him she loved her. He hoped she wouldn't point that out.
Feeling better for the first time since he ate that dreadful rat, Stormpaw finally lay down in his nest beside Hornetpaw, trying to regain his breath after so much physical activity. Even standing took a great deal of effort to accomplish, and Stormpaw worried that he wouldn't be able to catch up on his training. After all, he had only realized then that he had been in his coma for four days.
"But what happens now? I mean, we're apprentices..." he began awkwardly, not sure where he was actually getting at. He was trying to figure out what would happen once they became warriors, or even before that. Would they become mates? Or remain as friends? Surely not when they felt this way about each other. Still, Stormpaw's head began to hurt just by trying to comprehend his thoughts.

Hornetpaw grinned at her friend, plopping down into the nest next to him. "And you know how I like to tease people. Don't be so touchy!" The black cat meowed, an amused look on her face. She flicked Stormpaw's ear with her tail, purring happily.
"Um... I haven't thought about it." Her fur ruffled, and she frowned as she thought. What happens? I haven't heard of apprentices being mates... She looked at him, but she really wasn't paying attention to what she was seeing. She was focusing on figuring out what to do. What happens if we become mates? What happens if it doesn't?
The she-cat almost hissed at herself for fretting over it, but she couldn't help it. "I don't know. We can't just not be together," She mewed somewhat awkwardly, her mind still working in overdrive. If she was a twoleg she would have bitten her nails off by now trying to think of what happened next.

A raspy purr sounded from Stormpaw's throat at Hornetpaw's amused remark, followed by a few coughs. Clearing his throat, he glanced at Hornetpaw. The troubled expression on her face along with the awkward atmosphere around them made him feel uneasy.
"Actually.. just - whatever. Who cares what anyone thinks. Let's just stay how we are now," he sighed, affection and humor sparkling in his blue eyes. The churning in his stomache faded a bit, and Stormpaw decided that sooner or later he'd need to get back to training. But part of him didn't want to. He felt so content and relaxed with Hornetpaw by his side, and he might not have the time to lie with her like they were now.
Leaning forward, he gently nuzzled Hornetpaw's cheek, as if showing her that she could be in love and remain friends. Though, in the back of his mind, Stormpaw wondered how life would go on. Things were different now, and they could never go back to the way they were before. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He didn't regret falling in love with Hornetpaw, but now he wondered if they could ever share tongues or hunt together like they had before any of this happened.

"I don't care about what people think. I care about whether Foxstar is going to do about it," Hornetpaw meowed, a concerned look on her face. She thought for a moment then added, "But I agree. Let's just stay how we are." The apprentice sighed, then nudged Stormpaw's shoulder.
She was still worried about it, though she wouldn't let him see it. The black fur on her neck flattened, and she let out a small breath. She returned the tom's nuzzle, happy that she had a good friend to talk to. "So... wanna go on a walk?" Hornetpaw asked, rising to her feet. She looked at Stormpaw, hoping he was well enough to go.

Stormpaw felt a wave of anxiety flood over him. He didn't knowif hewas well enough yet. Then at that moment, he suddenly felt like a mouse-brain. He had been sleeping for four days. That was good enough for him.
Stiffly, he rose to his paws. He immediately felt nauscious, but it soon subsided. Glancing at Hornetpaw, he smiled sheepishly. "No, that's a stupid idea,"he meowed in good-hearted humor, referring to how Hornetpaw was being sarcastic with him earlier. He took a deep breath in and climbed out of his nest, surprised that he was still standing. Giving his fluffed up chest a few licks, he patiently waited for Hornetpaw to follow.

"Aw, shame. That means you'll just be stuck in here. Don't worry, though, I hear Stripedpaw coming into camp. He can keep you company," The apprentice teased, grinning as she watched Stormpaw rise to his paws. Flicking her tail, she swung her gaze to the entrance to the den. Stripedpaw was padding in, sightless eyes looking at the two apprentices.
Hornetpaw nudged her friend, clearing her throat. "Come on, you better get some fresh air," She mewed warmly, while the medicine cat snorted. He assumed she just wanted to get away from him. Well she could have her way, he wasn't going to stop them. The black she-cat slithered through the entrance to the medicine cat's den, looking around the camp. She paused for a minute, waiting for Stormpaw to follow her.

Stormpaw rolled his eyes and gave Hornetpaw a friendly nudge before following her out of the medicine cat's den. He took a deep breath in, anad let it out slowly as the cool, fresh air greeted him. It had been so damp inside the medicine cat's den, and the scent of sickness had stuck to the walls, to his nest, to everything, really.
Stormpaw was grateful for Hornetpaw's offer. He probably would've suffocated if he stayed in that treacherous den for any longer. "Hornetpaw, uh... thanks for, you know... staying with me," he meowed quietly, fixing his gaze on her. His blue eys shone with appreciation and warmth. Hornetpaw must've missed a great deal of training thanks to him, and he felt guilty for being the cause of it. But he wasn't going to complain. He wouldn't have wanted any other cat to stay with him for those couple of days, even if he wasn't awake to talk to them.

Hornetpaw breathed in a deep, long sigh let her breath in the clean air. The medicine cat den stunk of herbs and sickness, and had a small metallic hint of dried blood, presumably from used cobwebs. Flicking her tail, she smiled as she saw Stormpaw appear next to her.
She shook her head, refusing the "thank you". She frowned, not tearing her gaze from her friend. The apprentice refused to be thanked for being scared half to death because her best friend was in a coma. "Don't thank me. It would be like congradulating a warrior from running away during a battle. You're my friend. What kind of friend leaves another behind?"
With that the black she-cat turned around and bounded through the thorn barrier to camp, knowing that Stormpaw would most likely follow her. She sighed contentedly, happy to be out in the open. She heard a bird chirp and looked around, but it had spotted her and flew off.

Stormpaw knew right after he thanked Hornetpaw that she would refuse to accept it. He smiled as she started to argue with him, and a hint of amusement shone in his stormy blue eyes. He brushed his tail-tip on her shoulder in an affectionate gesture. "Friends..." he murmured under his breath, confusion making him frown for a heartbeat. Is that what they were? Friends? Of course not, he decided, they were more than friends.
But he didn't want things to change, so he simply smiled and trotted after Hornetpaw, ignoring the slight churning in his stomach. He squeezed through the tunnel of brambles and stood beside Hornetpaw. Stormpaw waited for her to start walking, so he could follow. He expected Hornetpaw to start the conversation, since she-cats were usually much better and talking on and on about what happened to them that day. And because of this, most toms thought of it as annoying. But Stormpaw didn't. He enjoyed listening to her, and exchanging his own news with her too.
