Poppyfeather blinked her eyes open. She sat up, shaking her head. How long had she slept there? Looking up at the sky, she realized that it was well past sun-high. "Hmph." she grunted. Her fight with Pikefang was all-too fresh in her mind, and she felt the tears making their way to her eyes again at the thought of him. How would she ever look at him again without some part of her dying?
She shook her pelt and glanced around at the other cats in the camp. A couple were eyeing her with curiosity, and Poppyfeather was sure that they were wondering why they found her curled up outside in the morning, rather than in her nest like everyone else. What they didn't know was that she had slept in her nest, but came outside to share a meal with him.
With a wavering sigh, Poppyfeather turned to groom her back. Might as well do something to get her mind off the events that happened earlier.

Pikefang trotted out of the warriors' den, for once, his face holding an expression, and expression of agony. He hadn't slept at all, not being able to get his mind off of Poppyfeather. Even though it had only been a couple of hours, he remembered every event that occured in their fight. Actually, it wasn't even a fight at all, it was simply Poppyfeather getting upset at Pikefang, leaving him with a broken heart.
Pikefang glanced around the clearing, his green eyes clouded. He spotted Poppyfeather at the edge of camp, a place a few ways off from where cats usually passed through. He felt his heart catch in his throat, and he couldn't speak. He swallowed, forcing himself to go on. He slowly made his way toward Poppyfeather, heart beating roughly against his chest.
"... P-poppyfeather?" he choked out, his voice barely a whisper. Pikefang took a few steps closer so he could see her face, and he recoiled when he saw that she was crying. The sight caused so much pain that he winced. While he had been in the warriors' den, he thought about how much Poppyfeather meant to him, and he realized that when she wasn't with him, it made a very big difference. It was as if a part of him was missing.
Swollowing, he continued. "Er... Poppyfeather, please, listen to me, when I say that... that, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you," he whispered hoarsely. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes briefly as he prepared for his next words. "You're the only one who understands me, who can put up with me, who... who cares about me. I never said I didn't love you, Poppyfeather... because that's not true." Pikefang stared down at his paws, saying nothing more. He knew that he said enough for Poppyfeather to realize that he loved her.

It seemed like it took him forever to get across the clearing, and she dreaded the inevitable meeting that was going to happen. When he spoke her name, Poppyfeather turned only her ears to face him. She didn't think that she could fully look at him just yet.
Within seconds, Pikefang was apologizing. Why? He didn't technically do anything wrong... He didn't love her. It wasn't crime. It was just.... painful.
"You're the only one who understands me, who can put up with me, who... who cares about me."
When he first started speaking, Poppyfeather fought back the urge to roll her eyes. Of course she was the only one who understood him. She was the only one who had ever spoken to him.
"I never said I didn't love you, Poppyfeather."
Poppyfeather snorted quietly. He didn't have to say he didn't love her. His reaction earlier was enough to point that out without the use of words. Why was he telling her this? She was already hurt enough; an explanation wasn't going to change anything.
Caught in the middle of all of her thoughts, Poppyfeather almost missed the ending of his sentence. Her eyes widened as she turned to look at him. "Wh-What?" she stuttered. The sadness in her eyes slowly faded away as realization came over her. A tingle went down her spine, and Poppyfeather's face turned into a half-smile.
"You mean....." she started, but she didn't have to finish the sentence. Poppyfeather erupted into loud purrs before quickly standing up and rubbing her face on his cheek. 'He loves me.' she thought happily. 'He really loves me!'

PIkefang slowly lifted his gaze from the ground, a sparkle of hope in his green eyes. He had never expressed his feelings so freely before, and to his surprise, it felt good. It felt good to open up, even if it was only by a little bit, and for a moment, he worried that Poppyfeather wouldn't fogive him.
But the look she gave him said it all. The sadness in her soft, blue eyes faded, and Pikefang felt himself relax a bit. "You mean....." He was about to finish her scentence, but she had already stood up and started to rub her muzzle on his cheek. The warm feeling made a shiver run down his spine, and it felt like all the broken pieces of his heart came together again. He gently bgean to rasp his tongue across Poppyfeather's cheek numerous times, comforting her and himself.
"I didn't know you felt that way about me, that's why I couldn't say anything earlier today; I was too shocked. I never thought that StarClan would bless me with someone like you, let alone be more than friends with you. I really do love you, Poppyfeather," he murmured into her ear, drinking in her sweet scent. Pikefang felt his body grow warm underneath his thick pelt. Now he understood why Jaggedstripe acted so affectionate around Badgerstep.
He trully cared about her, and he realized that he cared about Poppyfeather the same way. She meant the world to him, and he didn't know what he'd do if he lost her. Maybe Jaggedstripe wanted to share the time he had with Badgerstep has much as he could, knowing that one day one of them would be welcomed into StarClan's ranks.
