It was just after sunhigh, and Meadowstream had spent the whole day so far on hunting patrol, leaving her apprentice Saffronpaw to tend to the elders with the promise of an afternoon of hunting. She had told Saffronpaw to meet her by the rabbit warrens, at sunhigh. Now Meadowstream was pacing impaitently, awaiting her apprentice's arrival. The warrior and her apprentice were an odd pair, both headstrong and opionated. Thought Meadowstream enjoyed training Saffronpaw, she sometimes wondered how they got paired together as mentor and apprentice. Maybe it was so that Meadowstream could teach Saffronpaw some manners. The sun was beaming down, on Meadowstream and breifly she wished she was a RiverClan cat. Those fat fish eaters get to lounge around in the river all day, no wonder they look like a bunch of kittypets. With an annoyed sigh the brown and white tabby she-cat plopped down on the moor grass and began grooming herself, hoping that would help cool her down. ________________________________ words:164 pfft. Saffronpaw Saffronpaw left out a long, low groan. She sat just outside the elders' den, quietly and painfully observing the kits playing around her feet. I wish I could still be a kit. No duties, no worries. She thought, then that nagging sound that always contradicts a cat replied to her. Yeah, and you'd be treated like a baby again. You want that to happen? No, she shook her head absent-mindedly. She certainly did not want that to happen. She snapped out of her thoughts and started paying attention to her surroundings again. The apprentice had been taking a breather after listening to stories about noble Windclan warriors, wise Starclan ancestors, and many, many dog attacks.
Her fur was ruffled gently by the soothing wind as she looked down at her paws. She frowned un-approving at a spot of dried mud on her creamy white paws. She hissed irritably and lifted the paw gently up, licking it clean. She continued licking it for a couple of moments, before examining it and deciding it was good enough. She smiled at her silky fur, which was shining slightly in the afternoon sunlight.
She let out a sigh, giving into the inevitable. She turned around, looking into the dim light of the elders' den. She got up onto her weary paws, wincing as she stretched her sore muscles. turning in a full circle, she faced the den, taking in a deep breath. Saffronpaw ducked her head as she walked into the elders' den, her eyes dialating as they adjusted to the light. She took in her surroundings with large pupils, before they adjusted more and became a little less owl-like. Her nose wrinkled deeply at the smell of mouse bile, and she shivered, looking at the elders. The apprentice was certainly not looking forward to going back to picking large, fat ticks from matted pelts and licking clean patchy fur that smelled like mouse bile.
Suddenly a small bell went off in her head. One little fact had been bugging her all day, and after her breather, she hadn't been able to remember what it was. It wasn't just like a little gnat flying around her ears, either. It was more like a million rabbits running around her, trying to get her attention. But all at once, she remembered what it was. "It's sunhigh, isn't it?" She asked an elder, not waiting for an answer. She dashed outside, looking at the sun.
Something about rabbit... rabbit warrens! Meadowstream had promised her she would take her hunting at the rabit warrens aft sunhigh. She flew out of camp, her heart thumping as she stretched her sore legs. Her tail was being dragged droopily along in the wind. The chilly air made her shiver, but that did nothing to her mood about being able to leave the elders' den. "Gotta hurry... I'm going to be late and Meadowstream will kill me," She huffed to herself, making her short, thin legs go faster.
When she approached the rabbit warrens, the apprentice's creamy white fur had been covered in little fluffs of heather, a effect from having ran straight through a large patch of the plant. She rolled her eyes and ignored it, though she knew she would clean it later. She looking around and saw her mentor a few feet away, laying down and grooming herself. "I'm here. Don't make any comments about my fur," she huffed, her pale blue eyes peircing into the other she-cat.

--meadowSTREAM [blockqoute] Pausing mid-lick, Muse blinked her yellow eyes at her apprentice, with an annoyed look at the apprentice. Blinking her yellow eyes, she let out a hiss, "Where were you?" Standing she gingerly shook out her pelt. Unsheathing her claws, she dug them into the ground and cast a sweltering glance at her apprentice before sweeping on. "Let's go. I found a warren of young rabbits to hunt. The clan needs fed." Taking off at a bound the she-cat head up the slope and towards the newly discovered rabbit warren. Slowing to a walk she lifted her tail, signalling her apprentice to stop once she caught up. The rabbits must have been sheltering from the sun in thier warrens, but the she-cat was content to wait. There were at last five in the warren. A grand catch for the clan. [/blockqoute]
