Brindlestar A large bengal she-cat padded over of a her new den. She exited her den without pausing, and padded to the center of the camp. Stopping there, she began to groom herself. She wanted her pelt to be sleek for her first day. In the early dawn light, her pelt shined already. The she-cat had just returned from the moonstone, just after moon-high and the clan had already went to sleep. She was slightly glad, because after that ceremony she needed her rest before dealing with the clan. Her paw's itched for her clan to awaken, but she didn't want to wake them. Without having a reason to call a meeting, she didn't find it necessary to waken the queens and kits. Soon they would all be racing around the camp, and getting on a with the days chores. 140

Dawncloud pushed out of the Nursery. Her belly was quite large and brushed against the entrance of the nursery. Sitting down she began to clean her light gray pelt with white markings that looked almost like clouds. Her eyes where a light green and shined with excitement. She couldn't wait to find out how the trip to the Moonstone went for their new leader. Finishing her cleaning she looked up and scanned the area spotting Brindleflower. No wait she would be Brindlestar now. She stood up and padded lowly towards their leader. She was younger than herself by two moons. She was the youngest leader Riverclan has ever had.
She remembered when Brindleflower had been made deputy all the clans where surprised. She was so young. But their previous deputy had retired and their leader had but two lives left. Since becoming deputy Brindleflower had proved over and over that she had been the right choice.
Good morning Brindlestar how was your journey to Mother Mouth. I hope it was swift and with no trouble." She hoped that Brindlestar would notice she called her by the leader name assuming she had received her nine lives and name. She hoped she had. Dawncloud was sure starclan would approve of their new leader.

Brindlestar With a deep purr the bengal tabby, twitched her ear to acknowledge the older queen's approach. She blinked as the she-cat addressed her as Brindlestar. Brindlestar... that's going to take a while to get used to, she thought excitedly. Turning her pale green eyes onto the queen, she mentally noticed how her belly was swollen with kits. She's going to kit soon... "Good Morning Dawncloud. My journey was fine. How are you this morning?" She spoke softly but with a voice full of authority. Her journey had been fine, uneventful actually. She ran into a WindClan patrol, but they merely exchanged greetings and sympathies. After her visit with StarClan, she had found a bush to rest under before journeying home. Prey had been plentiful there, but she was eager to eat some fish. Woodland prey just had an awful taste to it. 146

A loud rumbling purr emanated through Dawncloud's chest at hearing Brindlestar's journey went well. That is good news the clan will be glad to hear it. I am doing fine. Looking forward to win these kits are born. It gets tiresome lying around all day with nothing to do. I would give anything to be able to go out on a border of hunting patrol."
It was true there was only so much boredom one cat could take before it drove them crazy. And Dawncloud had, had her limit of boredom. She let out a grimace as one of the kits kicked her stomach than sighed and shook her head. "Brindlestar I'm worried. It's Leaf-fall and it's getting colder and colder every day. I worry about my unborn kits. What if the river freezes over and I can not produce enough milk for them. It fills me with dread just thinking about it. How I wish is was new-leaf instead of leaf-fall." She said in a wishful voice.

The air was cool, with the faintest taste of moisture. Definitely not Thistlefire's preferred weather. He liked it when the sun was boisterous and strong, making quite a display with its radiant colors and embracing heat. Today was definitely not that day, and it bothered him, so early in the morning. Any other day and he might have gone back to bed, in order that he might be able to wake up and start the day on the right paw, but as this morning was his first as deputy, he figured it was only right that he be up and at them before any other cat.
Ah, deputy. Just thinking the word brought a smug grin to his face. This clan was as good as his, now. His, and Brindlestar's. Brindlestar's. Wow. That sure sounded funny in his head. And while he realized that his handicap of only one life to her nine made his succession unlikely, he figured that Riverclan still might one day be rolling a new name around in thier mouths. Perhaps... Thistlestar? Oh, if only!
Thistlefire strolled out of the warrior den confidently, stretching his legs with each casual step. He rolled his neck around, loosening up. Even if he didn't wake up in the right mood, he could still make the most of the day. He was above all of that nonsense now. He had to be better than however circumstances decided to play out. And of course he would. What deputy wouldn't?
Unfortunately, he was mistaken in his assumption that he would be the first one up this morning. As he came to find out, and pretty quickly, too, was that Brindlestar (yes, Brindlestar) was already up (although he wasn't too taken aback by that), and so was another cat. A certain Dawncloud, if he knew his cats right. And of course I do, he thought with amusement. It was the role of the deputy. By Starclan, he couldn't get enough of that title. He simply couldn't. It was just too good.
"Good morning," he meowed grandly as he approached the other two cats who were insane enough to be up on a day like this. "Brindlestar," he purred, dipping his head respectfully, and then a just-as-gracious nod towards the other, saying, "Dawncloud." He noted her swollen belly with what he would call an expert eye, even though he really wasn't the kind of cat to notice silly she-cat problems like that. He wanted to make the definite impression that he was in with all that was going on. "How are the kits coming?" he asked, although interest was hard to fake in the department.

Brindlestar The tan she-cat blinked her blue eyes to the queen. "I understand your concern, Dawncloud but the clan will take care of you. We wouldn't let you or your kits starve. RiverClan has always made it during leaf-are and this one shall be no different. " Glancing around the camp she noticed Thistlefire coming out of the warriors den. Watching the cat that she had chosen as her deputy she felt a flicker of pride. Flicking her ear to acknowledge her deputy, she mewed, "Good Morning Thistlefire." Turning her attention to the question that he directed at Dawncloud. Every cat knew that kits were great news for the clan, but Brindlestar couldn't help but worrying about how these kits were going to to fair in leaf-bare. Prey was growing harder to find, and though it wasn't bad enough for the clan to really feel it, Brindlestar had noticed how it took longer to catch fish. The she-cat was worried but she was determined not to let her clan see it.

Fangshatter walked into camp with a large fish in his mouth, He walked over to the fresh-kill pile and dropped it. Morning Brindlestar he said polietly. The younge tom looked around and then spotted his place where he sat. He didn't want Brindlestar to really know that he was feeling down about something. Ofcourse no one ever asked him or even really talked to him. It was like he was a ghost and the only one who ever paid attention to him was his mother and sisters. But now that his mother was gone, he had to look after his sisters from doing something bad.
