Russetclaw trotted into camp, talking to Jaggedstripe on the way in. They were pretty good friends, and sometimes talked to each other during patrols or chores. As they padded toward the fresh-kill pile, the tabby she-cat noticed Starlingfeather out of the corner of her eye. She almost frowned at the sight of her lonely friend, and when Jaggedstripe noticed, he asked, "Something wrong?"
Russetclaw only let out a sigh and shook her head in amusement. "Starlingfeather just looks so alone these days. So much, that it scares me," she replied, taking her eyes off her friend for a heartbeat to look up at Jaggedstripe. He just rolled his eyes and said nothing. Reaching the pile, they sat down and Jaggedstripe picked out a thrush to eat.
Russetclaw pouted and snagged the thrush out of his paws. "Oh, listen to me, you big bundle of fur," she snapped good-heartedly. "Ever since you and Badgerstep became mates, you seem so happy. I want Starlingfeather to be happy," she went on, passing the thrush back to Jaggedstripe once she was sure she had his attention. A flash of brown caught her attention, and this time, it was Adderstrike pushing through the gorse tunnel. She grinned mischievously. Jaggedstripe suddenly stared at her, and shook his head briskly. "No, Russetclaw. I know where you're going with this, and it's not going to happen," he dismissed in finality.
"Come on! We both know that Adderstrike needs some communication, and not just with you," she insisted, nudging his gently with her shoulder. Jaggedstripe said nothing for a few moments. He did care about Adderstrike; he was a good friend, and deputy. But how would this play out? "It'll never work. Adderstrike is tougher than a rock. There's no way they'd get together," he replied flatly. Russetclaw simply raised a brow. "Oh, is there?"
By the time Russetclaw and Jaggedstripe finished their prey, they had worked out a plan to get Adderstrike and Starlingfeather to start talking. An average patrol wouldn't be enough. She was trotting toward Starlingfeather, a smile on her face as she called out a greeting, and Jaggedstripe was heading toward Adderstrike, a somewhat annoyed look on his face. Probably wondering why he agreed to this silly plan in the first place.

Today was getting to be boring and the longer Starlingfeather sat in camp, the longer the she-cat was going to go insane. She did not enjoy being so alone and so out of sync with the rest of the clan. She just felt like an outsider. Sighing the she-cat began to shuffle her paws, trying to keep herself from going insane. Starlingfeather’s paws were itching to go on a patrol. But she wasn’t the type of she-cat to just go up to someone and ask them to go on a patrol with her. No, she had to be asked by someone. Asking someone was just way too awkward and it just felt wrong.
It felt like it had been moons since she had last set foot into the territory. But Starlingfeather knew it had been within the past day. With leaf-bare approaching, she just knew the clan needed everyone’s help. If she had to do double, she was perfectly fine with that. It was better than staying alone in the den. Turning her attention back to her paws she wished she had someone to talk to. Everyone seemed to have their own little group of friends, but she just was not so lucky.
Starlingfeather was snapped out of her little pity party the moment she heard a greeting from a cat. Looking up she saw it was her friend, Russetclaw. Thank Starclan! Finally someone to talk to. ”Hi Russetclaw. What can I do for you?”
she asked. Was Russetclaw up to something? Surely she wasn’t thinking of doing something mousebrained. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

** Meanwhile **
"Greetings, Jaggedstripe," Adderstrike mewed politely when he saw his friend padding towards him, an anticipated look on his face. Hm... I hope he's not up to no good, he thought to himself as the gray warrior sat down beside him. "What is it?" he asked, curious on what Jaggedstripe had to say to him. It wasn't often that he and Jaggedstripe had conversations without doing something else, like hunting or sharing a meal together.
-------------------------------------
"Hi, Starlingfeather! I wanted to talk to you about something," Russetclaw smiled as she lay down beside her friend, stretching her limbs until she was comfortable with her position. Oh, this would be so fun! Starlingfeather would finally have someone to talk to (other than herslef, of course). Getting her and Adderstrike together, surely, wouldn't be that hard. Thinking of how she would explain this to her, Russetclaw said nothing for a few moments before grinning and opening her jaws to speak.
-------------------------------------
"Hunting? With you, Russetclaw and Starlingfeather?" Adderstrike repeated, still a bit suspicious. It wasn't what he expected to hear from Jaggedstripe, but he was acting a bit paranoid. Not everyone was getting into trouble, he decided. jaggedstripe nodded and waited for an answer. Adderstrike thought for a minute. Jaggedstripe was his friend, and Russetclaw was Starlingfeather''s friend (or so it seemed), and going on a patrol with the three of them sounded a bit fishy. Oh, but who was he to accuse Jaggedstripe of doing something behind his back? "Sure, that sounds great," he finally answered.

As Russetclaw approached, Starlingfeather could not fathom what in the world her friend would want. She appeared to be happy and in a good mood. Was something new going on in her life? Whatever it was, she was about to find out. The words her friends spoke worried Starlingfeather a little. What did Russetclaw mean by she needed to talk to her about something? Surely it wasn’t bad. Or well she hoped not. ”Okay, I’m listening.”
she said, glancing at her friend with a look that had confusion written all over. Sighing she thought about Russetclaw and what the other she-cat would ask her. ”Please don’t tell me you are about to get into trouble for something.” she meowed trying to stifle a smile. The anticipation was growing and her friend wasn’t speaking. She was eagerly awaiting, but Russetclaw was saying nothing. Well if it wasn’t important than why was she acting like it was? Starlingfeather twitched her tail, trying to decipher what exactly was going on. But nothing she could think of was a great scenario. When finally Russetclaw had settled and it seemed that her friend was going to begin speaking, Starlingfeather let out a sigh and awaited for what Russetclaw was going to say.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Russetclaw stiffled a giggle. "Oh, of course, not! Why would I want to get you in trouble?" she mewed incredulously. Well, that was partially a lie. It was true she was about to tangle Starlingfeather into a big romantic mess with the handsome ShadowClan deputy, but she wouldn't want to get her in trouble. Besides, how can she get her in trouble? All they would be doing was hunting... right after she and Jaggedstripe gave the two of them a little bit of privacy. The thought of them together made the brown tabby she-cat grin, and she went on.
"I was going to ask if you can come hunting with me, Jaggedstripe and Adderstrike," she mewed innocently. But before she could add some other clever remark, a deep voice sounded behind her. "Well, shouldn't we be going now?" Russetclaw turned to see Adderstrike, himself, standing before her. He was a muscular tom, bulky chest and broad shoulders. Those yellow-green eyes of his were brilliant, yet mysterious at the same time. He certainly was a looker.
"Of course! I was just informing Starlingfeather," she mewed calmly, casting a quick glance towards Jaggedstripe and trying to hide the amusement in her eyes when she saw him scrunch up his nose as if the whole situation annoyed him - which it did. Adderstrike simply stood there, look at the two of them with confusion in his cold gaze. He turned it on Starlingfeather, and wondered if she even knew what was going on. Something felt a bit suspicious toward the deputy, but he wouldn't question Jaggedstripe.

Starlingfeather narrowed her eyes at her friend, but couldn’t come up with a response that would be good enough to argue her point. Maybe Russetclaw wasn’t trying to get her into trouble, but she was up to something…she had to be. ”I could think of several reasons.”
she muttered under her breath, but looked back up at her friend. Starlingfeather still had her suspicions about what Russetclaw was up to, and what exactly she was about to be dragged into. With Russetclaw, though, you never knew what you were getting yourself into. At the question, the she-cat sighed. Russetclaw knew exactly how to get her attention. If she had started out with mentioning hunting, it would have been such an easier and less time consuming conversation. ”When have you ever known me to turn down a hunting patrol, no matter who it is with?” she retorted, rolling her eyes. She was going to question her friend further, but the two she-cats were joined by Adderstrike and Jaggedstripe. Looking at the pair she wondered how they were friends. It just seemed so odd to her. But then again, most cats could look at her and Russetclaw and not know what went on in their minds. Who was she to judge a friendship? ”I’ve been ready forever, someone is just very chatty today.” she joked, prodding Russetclaw with a paw. ”Lead the way.” Starlingfeather mewed to Adderstrike, ready for this patrol to begin. Finally, something to do other than feel useless to the clan![/blockquote][/blockquote]
