Hunting. Hunting is such a dirty word when it’s this hot. This is stupid. A tabby tom apprentice was picking his way across the moor, his thoughts filled with annoyance at his mentor and his “duty” as an apprentice. Why did he have to hunt on the hottest day of leaf-fall? Why was it so hot in the first place? Leaf-fall was supposed to be cool, yet somehow today felt like a day in the middle of Green-Leaf. He didn’t feel like hunting, and felt more like going for a swim. Ha! A WindClan cat swimming in water! Hilarious.
Blowing off his hunting duty, his mentor wasn’t expecting him back till late anyways he headed towards the stream and glanced around. With his thick pelt, if he got it wet he’d be cool for a while… if only no one saw him. Creeping into the stream, he felt a sigh of satisfaction escape him at the cold water. It felt so good. He stood there like that for several heartbeats until a familiar scent drifted down the breeze towards her. WindClan! Scrambling he turned to get out of the stream and fell on his face, staggering to his paws he began coughing up water.

Oh dear StarClan she had done it again, she had been told to go on her first solo hunt and what had she done? She had gotten lost. Typical behavior for Maplepaw, it was seeming to occur more often these days. Then again, why would someone have the bright idea of allowing her in the forest by herself? The apprentice had barely stepped one paw out of camp before hearing so many sounds that scared her. So instead of hunting, the she-cat had been stumbling around, trying to get away from all of the scary noises.
Maplepaw looked around, if only one of her siblings were here, or even her father. They could help her, but then again, she didn’t want to have to rely on them all the time. She would be fine without the toms in her life. As she headed in a different direction, she wondered where her paws were leading her. She hoped they were leading her toward somewhere safe and not scary. She knew water was nearby, and wouldn’t mind stopping off for a quick drink. She would need something to keep up her energy on this hot day. She heard splashing and random other noises, and began to shake with fear. Was an intruder on WindClan land? Knowing she would never hear the end of it if she didn’t check it out, the apprentice followed the scent and noticed it wasn’t an intruder….just Quailpaw.
Looking at the younger tom she shook her head. What was he doing out here all alone? And why was he wet? Running toward him as she heard him coughing, she looked concerned. ”Are you okay?”

Stumbling on to land, and coughing up tons of water- was not as easy as it sounds. At the moment he was rather busy, with choking and whatnot and suddenly he heard a voice. Vaguely he recognized it, and once he finally coughed up the last bit of water her turned and saw Maplepaw.
The shy apprentice had asked him something, and it took a few heartbeats for him to realize what she'd said. 'Are you okay?' Shaking himself to rid himself of the water, he turned and rasped, "Y-yeah, I just wanted to go for a swim."
He blinked her eyes at the older apprentice, it seemed that she had been sent out on her own today as well. He wondered if the older apprentice had caught anything. Shaking his head he laid down on the bank, his flanks quivering. "Catch anything?" Maybe he'd ask her if she wanted to hunt with him. He could use the company and she would probably fair better with him. It was no secret that the apprentice often got lost on the broad moors. He could be her friend and help her not get as lost. Maplepaw glanced at the younger apprentice curiously. Why in the world would a WindClan cat go swimming? Surely Quailpaw knew that he lived in WindClan, not RiverClan. Her head tilted to the side and her eyes were staring right at him. She was completely confused right now. Looking at the water she shuddered. She didn’t know why Quailpaw had wanted to do something like that. She wasn’t afraid of water, no, she just was afraid of drowning. Surely getting her paws wet wouldn’t hurt anything. After an internal argument, the she-cat splashed in the water a little, not going further than paw deep. ”I guess it is a little bit refreshing, after all it is a hot day.”
she mewed softly. Padding closer to Quailpaw she took a seat beside him and shook her head at his question. ”N-n-nothing s-s-seems to b-b-e around.” she stuttered. Maplepaw didn’t want to tell the other apprentice that she had been too afraid to catch anything, that would make her seem weak and she was most definitely not weak. She allowed herself to calm down a little. Being scared really did not help when she was trying to lie or well…fail at lying. She let out a sigh and looked back to Quailpaw. ”Truth is I don’t do well hunting alone. I get too nervous by all the sounds and I feel like someone is watching me.” Great, now she just sounded like she was paranoid. And this is exactly why she normally kept to herself and didn’t interact much. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
