Cloudwing bounded out into MistClan territory, feeling the breeze ruffle his fur lightly. He looked back at Minnowstream and grinned, a bit of his arrogance fading for a moment as he gazed at her with warm and excited blue eyes. "Ready?" he meowed. He didn't wait for her to reply. "The first one to catch 3 pieces of prey wins." He flexed his claws and tensed his muscles, his tail lashing in eagerness.

occ: I'm thinking Cloudwing should win....
"I'm ready," Minnowstream confirmed, going over in her head where she should hunt. It should be the easiest to catch three peices of prey by the river. She could scoop some fish out of the river, and maybe catch a water vole. The silver tabby swished her tail back and forth excitedly, she was ready to see who could catch more.

OOC:: Yeah.. I'll PM you, I have an idea. o3o
Cloudwing's blue eyes gleamed with excitement, and a bright fire of determination. He turned and shot off without any warning, yowling out, "Go!" as he disappeared through some thin shrubs. He pelted through the soft meadow, his paws thudding loudly against the ground. He could try by Sunningrocks, he thought, but that would mean crossing the river.
Eh, I'm the strongest cat in my clan, so it shouldn't be hard. Though Cloudwing couldn't help but feel nervous in apprehension at the thought of diving into the black, cold water. He had drowned it once as an apprentice, and it took him a while to recover his fears of the mighty river that cut through RiverClan territory.

Minnowstream raced off when Cloudwings yelled "go!". Her first thought was to race off to the river, and it seemed to be Cloudwings thought too. He headed for Sunning Rocks, so Minnowstream decided to go in the other direction.
She dashed up the river, and stared down into it. She couldn't see any fish swimming by, the silver tabby blinked for a moment. Was there actually no fish in the river?! She was about to lash out at the flowing water when she realized something. My shadow is over the river! How embarresing! Minnowstream looked around to make sure no one had seen her mouse-brained mistake. Making sure your shadow wasn't over the water was the first thing you were taught as an apprentice!

Dark, chilling water pounded into Cloudwing as he plunged into the river. His paws thrashed around wildly as his head broke through the surface. He took a deep breathe and pushed himself onwards, his long, sleek fur benefiting him as he swam through the water like a fish. Proud of himself, determination made Cloudwing stronger, and he reached the other side of the river in long, deep gasps. Glancing over his shoulder, he smiled proudly and lifted his chin and tail high into the air as he made his way silently to Sunningrocks.
Opening his jaws, Cloudwing took a deep breathe and almost broke into a purr when the warm, delicious scent of prey filled his nostrils. He crept forwards, keeping his tail slightly elevated off the ground and moved his paws gently yet swiftly. A small vole poked out of a crack in the large rocks that formed Sunningrocks, and Cloudwing tensed his muscles.

Minnowstream decided to move to a different spot, one where her shadow didn't go over the water. It took a moment to find a nice spot, and the silver taby became worried that maybe Cloudwing had already caught some prey. I have to hurry! Minnowstream padded up to the edge and stared down, a couple of fish swam by but she was unsucessful at catching one. Why was she suddenly being so horrible at hunting!

A vole was tightly clamped between Cloudwing's jaws as his powerful legs churned through the dark, chilling water. His nostrils were stretched open in an attempt for air since his mouth was occupied with prey, and he felt his muscles screaming out in exhaustion.
Finally, he dragged himself out of the cold water and onto the opposite bank from Sunningrocks, spitting out the vole and erupting into a bout of coughing before taking a few, well-earned breathes. He grasped his prey in his jaws once more and started along the river bank until he found some suitable bracken where he could bury his prey. When he finished, the white tom gave the river a sneer over his shoulder in victory and trotted deeper into the territory.
When he wasn't even that far from the river, Cloudwing spotted a silver pelt gleaming in the sunlight, and he stopped in his tracks. Minnowstream sat perched on the river bank, looking intensely concentrated. Cloudwing almost forgot about the contest as he stared at her beautiful frame, then quickly shook his head in embarrassment and confusion. So what if Minnowstream was pretty; he had never really cared that much. Shaking his sudden thoughts out of his mind, he focused on the hunting and bounded over to Minnowstream, stopping a fox-length behind her. "Hi, Minnowstream!" he meowed cheerfully.

"Wha-" Minnowstream jumped up, startled. She been focusing hard on the river, and Cloudwing had scared her. She turned around, realizing it was just Cloudwing. "Oh it's just you." she meowed calmly, letting out a small sigh of realif. "You scared me!" she added, hoping to distract her friend from the fact that she hadn't caught any prey yet. Minnowstream starred at him for a moment, examining his thick white coat, and his sharp blue eyes which always seemed to calm her.

OOC:: Awe, I can feel a new feeling coming into the air between them. <3
Cloudwing smiled half-warmly, half-teasingly. "I always do." he remarked, raising a brow in undisguised amusement. Though he knew Minnowstream well, and her small talk was just an attempt to distract him from the contest.
But that wasn't what was distracting Cloudwing, it was Minnowstream herself. He felt a strange - yet warm sensation prickle through his fur. "So, where's your prey?" he pressed, eyeing Minnowstream suspiciously. He knew that she could ask the same of him, but he had burried his vole before meeting her.

"Um...." Minnowstream meowed awkwardly, starring down at her paws. What am I supposed to say?! The silver tabby started to panic, what would the tom say if she told him she hadn't caught anything yet? "I didn't catch anything..." she meowed quietly, shutting her eyes tight and hoping things went okay.

OOC:: Oh, no. It's time for the part where he hurts her feelings.
For a heartbeat Cloudwing was unsure of what Minnowstream said due to her quiet tone, but then burst out laughing even so. "Y-you didn't catch anything?" he repeated, his face turning red from laughter. "Ha-ha-ha! Wow, I thought you'd at least have a mouse by now!" he laughed, his eyes narrowed in a sneer. He didn't know how hurtful his words came out, and continued to laugh, falling backwards on his haunches when he couldn't control himself.

"Well maybe we should just cancel the contest, since it seems I can't even catch a mouse." she blurted out angrily. The silver tabby's eyes became wet with tears and she raced off, unable to face Cloudwings laughing anymore. Minnowstream was just dashing, heading where ever her paws took her. She at least though Cloudwing would be a little nice, but she didn't expect him to be that mean.
Minnowstream raced over the small twolegpath, heading for the gorge where she knew it would be loud. Normaly you might think being a a nice, quiet spot would be better for an upset cat but Minnowstream liked the loud water. She didn't want to think about what had just happened! She thought it would be better if she was somewhere where she couldn't think because it was so loud.
Tears pouring from her eyes, the silver tabby rushed toward the edge of the gorge, her white paws stomping against the ground. She sat down near the edge, just close enough to gaze down into the swirling white water. The small warrior stared down at the rushing water for what seemed like moons (although it really was only a couple moments), her heart and mind was pounding. She thought that Cloudwing had actually liked her, that maybe....just maybe she had an actual friend for once. But it seemed like nothing ever stayed good for long, like her friendships, if she'd ever had any besides Cloudwing, and it looked like her hunting skills disapeared too. After thinking for a moment, Minnowstream thought maybe if she hadn't have been such a horrible hunter, that maybe things would've stayed the same. Or maybe she should've just lied to Cloudwing, anything would've been better than to hear his laughing.

Cloudwing's eyes were shut as he laughed and he didn't even notice Minnowstream's angry retort until she stormed off. Shocked and surprised, he scrambled to his paws, and was about to say something in defense when he realized she disappeared through the undergrowth. Her words stung like an adder's bite. "Minnowstream!" he called out, his half-annoyed, half-shameful voice sounding loud in the quiet atmosphere. He sat down for a moment, all traces of laughter leaving his body, and curled his tail around his paws anxiously.
"Geez, it's not my fault she couldn't catch a stupid mouse." he mumbled, working his claws across the grass before him. Minnowstream didn't have to get so worked up all over a piece of prey. If she didn't want to admit it, she could've just lied, Cloudwing thought. Suddenly, he felt long claws pierce through his heart, and he silently hung his head in shame, shutting his eyes tightly. What's wrong with me? he wondered to himself. For a heartbeat, he hesitated before quickly standing up and pelting after Minnowstream, following her scent. He knew exactly where she went, as she always does when she was feeling bad, but Cloudwing realized that this time, he had went too far.
"M-Minnowstream." he stammered lamely as he walked up to her, his stomache twisting as he stepped dangerously close to the edge of the gorge where the silver tabby was sitting.

"What?" she meowed, no warmth in her voice. The silver she-cat took a step or two back, making so distance between her and the white tom. She realized that Cloudwing knew that this is where she went when she was upset, maybe I should've gone somewhere else. But the silver warrior knew no-where else would've been good, it wouldn't have been loud enough. Also she did sort of want to see the white warrior, and hear what he had to say. Minnowstream looked down at her paws, hiding her face, which was damp from tears. She didn't want to look at the tom, or look into his calming blue eyes.

Cloudwing winced inwardly as Minnowstream snapped at him, and backed away from him. He could sense the tension crackling in the air, and all he wished was to curl up somewhere and disappear. Nothing was worse than his friendship with Minnowstream to be rejected, he realized just now. "Minnostream.." he repeated, suddenly lost for words. It was a long time before he finally spoke. "I.. are you mad at me?" he meowed. He wasn't used to apoligizing, nor actually admitting he did the wrong things for that matter.
