Shadeclaw stalked out of the gorse tunnel, his head low and his tail lashing irritably. Why did he have to be assigned the most annoying apprentice in the Clan? He would rather have the little rogue, Duskpaw, since at least he knew when to shut-up.
"We're doing battle training." he snapped briskly at Frecklepaw, flicking his tail as a gesture for her to follow him. Bounding to the training hollow, he didn't slow his pace. When he arrived, he turned to see that Applepaw wasn't standing beside him. "Hurry up!" he growled, twitching his whiskers scornfully.

Frecklepaw beamed up at her mentor, completely unaware of his harsh tone. Happy thoughts were buzzing in her head like newleaf bumblebees, making her giddy and excited. Battle training! Oh boy! She gave a little bounce as she bounded into the clearing, tearing past her mentor, her fur gently brushing his as she shot past like a frightened hare.
The whole Clan knew Frecklepaw was an exceptional fighter, all the more fierce because of her disregard for her own safety. She was slow to anger, but once she became heated, the closest cat was likely to get a pelt-ripping. Now, however, Frecklepaw purred happily, sitting herself in the training hollow and batting absently at a butterfly as it flew lazily by.
"Alright! Let's do it!" she hissed through bared teeth, settling herself into a crouch and beginning to prowl around her mentor.

Shadeclaw noticed how distracted Frecklepaw appeared, and he snorted scornfully. How could he train such a mouse-brain like this to become a strong, fierce warrior? And her being a she-cat makes his job even more difficult.
"Come at me." he ordered, crouching to the ground with his claws itching to unseathe themselves. He never unseathed his claws in mock fights, but many times he was close to doing so without thinking. It was an instinct, after all.

Frecklepaw watched as her mentor crouched, and she flicked her ears, thinking about her best strategy. Not even a few heartbeats passed before she became bored with this, and decided to simply hurl herself at Shadeclaw and see what happened.
With a blood-curdling yowl, she launched her tiny body off the ground with speed that a WindClan warrior would be jealous of, aiming to land squarely on top of her mentor's broad back. With a hiss, she aimed a powerful swipe of her forepaws at the sensitive skin between his shoulder blades, hoping to push him down to the earth.

Shadeclaw was impressed by Frecklepaw's speed, and was actually unprepared for the powerful swipe of her front paw as it hit his chest, right in between his shoulder blades. Letting out a furious yowl or surprise, the impact sent him tumbling to the ground, but not powerful enough for him to be dazed.
Quickly, he recovered his paws and faced Frecklepaw. With a smirk, he raised a massive paw up and aimed a blow at the side of her head, a move that would surely send her flying. Proceeding with his intentions, Shadeclaw swiped his unseathed paw at Frecklepaw's head, and after the blow, he quickly flashed by her side, so he could attack again when she fell.

Frecklepaw, as quick and scattered as her brain was, was able to anticipate his move and quickly dodge to the side, but not without a soft brush from his swinging paw. Her mind was completely blank, for once in her life. Without having to think, she whirled around and was able to catch the very tip of her mentor's tail between her grasping jaws. She bit down gently, but sunk her teeth in enough that he would feel it. As he shook her off, she sprang backwards, out of his reach, and lashed her tail. Her blood was boiling, and her vision narrowed. With a screech like a banshee, she flung herself at him, aiming for his front and hoping to just bowl him over.
OOC // She's an uncommonly good fighter, because she has no regard for her safety or pain, but she's the world's WORST hunter, so it's not like I'm making her super apprentice here. Just to let you know. ;)

Shadeclaw hissed in pain as he felt jaws clamp down on his tail, and he sprang forwards out of Frecklepaw's reach. Whisking around, he had just enough time to side-step as his apprentice flung herself at him, and he leapt - head-first - straight into her side, throwing both of them to the ground. Flipping her over, Shadeclaw placed a massive paw on her throat, and almost forgot to keep his claws seathed. He had to admit, Frecklepaw was thinking and fighting like a warrior, but he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of his praise. Releasing her from his grasp, he climbed off her and shook the dust off his pelt. "Alright, let's head back to camp." he growled, not waiting for Frecklepaw as he began to stalk out of the training hollow.

Frecklepaw rolled under the impact as her mentor crashed down upon her small body, kicking him off easily just as he started to get up. She shrugged, rolling her shoulders against the sandy ground, and launched herself up to follow him.
As they padded back to camp, Frecklepaw, barely out of breath, raced ahead, rustling the undergrowth. "Why such a short training session, Shadeclaw? Were you too scared that I was gonna shred you!?" She giggled, casting a glance over her shoulder. Not looking where she was going, she slipped in a patch of leaf mold and tumbled over, wrenching her paw painfully.
"Ow ow ow, bloody mousetails!" she screeched, flattening her ears and hopping about in a circle with her injured paw elevated. She was always getting hurt like this; silly injuries caused by not paying attention or moving much too quickly.

Shadeclaw whirled around to face Frecklepaw after her silly accusation, and lifted an unseathed paw as if he were about to strike her. But his conscious won over his judgement, and he unseathed his claws again. It would be mouse-brained to hurt an apprentice at that time, especially when other patrols were wandering around the territory. Growling, he padded on without looking back.
When he heard Frecklepaw's screech, he rolled his eyes in annoyance, but the tips of his mouth were turned up in a satisfied smirk. "Oh, suck it up. It's your fault that you never pay any attention to anything," he sneered, lashing his tail in impatience. "Just hurry up," he finally growled after watching Frecklepawa hop around on three paws. Starting towards camo again, Shadeclaw payed no attention to Frecklepaw and instead was focused on the prey he'd tear into once he returned to camp.

Frecklepaw stuck out her bottom lip as far as it would go, flattening her ears at her mentor. Why did she have to be stuck with the most boring, serious, unkind mentor in the whole Clan? She thought of her denmates, out with their own mentors, having fun and learning without being snapped at constantly.
"Maybe if you showed a bit more interest, I would pay more attention," she muttered, unsure of whether or not he had heard, but found she didn't care much either way. Frecklepaw very rarely showed any kind of unhappiness. She usually just shook it off and looked on the bright side, but today it was very hard to do that. With a grimace, she gingerly put weight on her injured paw and began the slow and painful hobble back to the camp, worrying about how she was going to climb the ravine with only three paws.

Shadeclaw hissed in annoyance and lashed his tail. "Being a warrior isn't something "interesting", you brat! If you think that being a warrior is supposed to be fun and exciting, well than you can just go and become a fat kittypet," he spat, not turning back to look at Frecklepaw. Today was an especially bad day for Shadeclaw. But it wasn't his fault that he got assigned such an annoying little mouse-brain as an apprentice. Maybe if she listened to him for once in her life, than she would actually be able to learn something, if she was even capable of doing that. Shadeclaw would certainly make sure to tell Hawkstar about her unacceptable behavior if she kept this up.

Frecklepaw gasped at his words, her feelings well and truly hurt for the first time in her life. Normally, she would shrug off all the negative things that Shadeclaw said to her, and she would maintain a happy go-lucky attitude. But this...this was too much. With a sharp intake of breath, she wheeled around and pelted away, holding her injured paw aloft as she ran, and flattening to undergrowth.
After what seemed like a few heartbeats, but may have been much longer, Frecklepaw flung herself on the ground, panting with exertion. She knew Shadeclaw wouldn't have followed her. He didn't care enough. With a sigh, she set about licking her injured paw, rasping her small pink tongue gently over the swollen pad. She sulked, thinking about his words. He was wrong. She could never, would never be a kittypet. She was a warrior, born to follow the warrior code. Granted, her Clanmates may find her a bit strange, but she would never dream of leaving the forest.
