"He might, but he won't be happy that we only caught two peices of prey. But, if you're right and we get to relax, do you want to share a mouse?" she asked, suddenly feeling like she had forgotten something. She shifted uneasily, trying to remember what it was.
".... I had a good time with you too, Jaggedstripe. Thank you- really," she said, smiling with warmth. Her eyes sparked with adoration, like they had earlier. Then she tensed as she remembered what she had forgotten. "Foxdung!" Badgerstep exclaimed, looking around. "We forgot to pick up the prey!"Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe smiled, you could see the delight on his face, and nodded. "Sure, I haven't eaten yet," he meowed, only remembering just then that he was hungry. He glanced around the clearing for a moment, and spotted Spottedpelt by the fresh-kill pile.
"We should go out again another time," he meowed suddenly, a hint of longing in his golden eyes. He would've spent time with Badgerstep than recieve nine lives, he realized. When she mentioned the prey though, he spat in surprise and annoyance. "Darn it! Now we'll have to-" he was cut off by Spottedpelt. "What prey?" she meowed, gesturing toward the fresh-kill pile at the blackbird and squirrel they had caught earlier.

It was fun,"she mewled, happiness evident in her voice. She swung her head towards her friend a few moments later, confusion in her gaze. Seeing the prey, she left out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks Spottedpelt! You're a life saver," she said, nudging her friend's shoulder softly. Then she flicked her tail at Jaggedstripe, indicating for him to follow her. Reaching the fresh-kill pile, she pulled a rather plump mouse out. Tearing it in half, she gave one half of it to the gray warrior next to her.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe's smile vanished when Spottedpelt appeared, but the warmth in his eyes remained as he nodded at Badgerstep. The thing was, Jaggedstripe wasn't one with showing emotions in front of other cats. If he was acting kindly toward Badgerstep, he wouldn't want anyone to see that.
Spottedpelt returned Badgerstep's smile and gave her ear a swift lick as she past by. When she gestured, Jaggedstripe instantly bounded after her, his tail high in the air. Suddenly, a pang of sadness hit Spottedpelt, and she tried to shake it off. Now that Jaggedstripe was obviously taking a fancy toward Badgerstep, Spottedpelt would be left alone most of the time. Of course she wanted Badgerstep to be happy, but she couldn't hel but feel that she had somehow lost Badgerstep.
You take the first bite," Jaggedstripe ordered generously, a smirk spreading across his face once again as they left Spottedpelt. He pushed the mouse toward Badgerstep and gestured to it with a flick of his ear.

Then she looked at Jaggedstripe, and shook her head viciously. "You," she said, nudging it towards his paws. She gave him a look that almost said 'don't argue', and flicked her tail, waiting for him to take a bite.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe opened his jaws to protest, but the look Badgerstep gave him kept it shut. "Only StarClan know why you would decline a generous offer from a lovely tom like myself to take the first bite of a well-earned piece of prey," he mumbled, mischief shining in his golden eyes.
Sighing, he bent down and took a small bite out of the mouse. It's meat was a bit stringy and tough, but he didn't argue. He gulped down a few more small famished bites, and pushed the mouse back toward Badgerstep. He left her a bit more than half, since he could just hunt later again - and hopefully, he could ask Badgerstep to tag along.
Suddenly, as if no one else was in the marshy clearing, the sun seemed to shine more brightly, and it's light cascaded down onto Badgerstep. Her black fur shimmered beautifully, and her white fur appeared to have stars in them. Jaggedstripe looked up into her eyes, his own kindness and warmth reflected in them, and suddenly he suddenly felt a strong longing to be with the intimidating warrior.

Pawing at the part of the mouse that was left, she bit into it. Eating most of it, she smiled. Then she left the last bite in between the two of them.
Badgerstep looked at Jaggedstripe, grinning at the tom. It had been a perfect day so far, except for her nightmare, she mused. But the nightmare didn't disturb her as much, since it happened earlier in the day. She flicked her tail, enjoying the presence of the gray cat next to her.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe's chest tightened as he debated in his mind wether he really had feelings for Badgerstep, or if his feelings were just messing around with him. He didn't even reply to her reply, or show her that he aknowledged it. Instead, he pawed the remains of the mouse, tyring to figure out what to do.
This was as difficult as summoning the courage to face a entire group of monsters on the Thunderpath. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. It was easy to see that the gray tom was struggling to put the words together. Finally, he just forced himself to speak. "Badgerstep.." he gulped, as soon as he said her name, it felt like his throat had swollen and he couldn't speak. "I don't know why, but when I'm with you.. I feel happy, and my mind is clear. It's as if all my problems have disappeared when you smile.. and my fur tingles when you look at me." he stammered, his heart pounding against his chest.
"You mean a lot to me, Badgerstep.. I.. I think.. I think I'm in love with you,"

"You okay?" She asked gently, putting her tail on his shoulder. Then he started speaking, and her jaw dropped. Her heat started beating faster, and she forced her jaw to close. Pinning her ears to her head, she listened to him finish.
"W-well..." the warrior started, not knowing how to continue. Fi-first of all, A-are you kidding me?" She asked, eyes gleaming. When he said nothing, she assumed he wasn't and kept speaking.
"I think you already know this, but i-if you don't, you might want to know. When I'm around you my heart soars. I-I lov-love you too, Jaggedstripe. You mean alot to me," she purred, licking his ear.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe sat with his head hanging and his anxious gaze fixed on his paws. He silently waited for Badgerstep's response, and he hoped she hadn't re-thought her feelings for him. When she described how her heart soared when she was around him, the gray warrior looked up into her eyes, wanting to yowl in joy but kept silent until she stopped speaking.
When Badgerstep finished by rasping her tongue over his ear, a deep purr rumbled from his throat, which felt strange to him as this was the first time he had purred in a long time, and he pressed his nose into her fur, drinking in her sweet scent. Don't think that I'll stop being a stupid furball now," he teased, his eyes shining brightly. Jaggedstripe curled his tail with Badgerstep's, and felt his heart soar. From a distance, Spottedpelt watched with a happy expression.

She purred louder in amusement, and looked the tom in the eyes. She raised an eyebrow, and remarked, "Then you don't think I won't be an annoying furball." When he twined her tail with hers, she closed her eyes happpily. "Well this day wasn't that bad," she commented, surprised how lucky she was.
She looked up at the sky, wondering if they had to go on patrols yet. Badgerstep sure didn't want to, with what was happening. Her crush, that she had fancied for a while, just told her that he loved her too. It was like a dream... inside a reality.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe purred as Badgerstep lay her head on his shoulder, and pressed himself closer against her smaller body. "All the other toms in the Clan are probably jealous of me, because I have this annoying furball." he teased, licking her ear affectionately. This day had so many ups and downs, and finally it was starting to brighten again, much more than any other day Jaggedstripe had lived. He knew that he was lucky to have actually found someone he loved, and who loved him back. Living alone for the rest of his life is what he thought would happen, but apparantly not.

"Yeah, well all the she-cats should be jealous. Because I have the stubbornest tom in the clan," she joked, batting at his ear.
She had never had any real family. She had her dad, but she didn't know Shadegaze was her dad until he was dying before her eyes. Haregaze was her sister that didn't talk to her, and her mother was a former Riverclan warrior; and Badgerstep didn't even know if she was alive.
"I'm so lucky to have you," she told Jaggedstripe, smiling.Badgerstep

Jaggedstripe snorted and a defiant look spread across his face. Yep, the old Jaggedstripe was returning. "Stubborn? I can say the same thing about you," he argued, though his voice was gentler and not brisk like he would've spoken to his other Clan mates. He glanced around the camp clearing, and his gaze fixed on Spottedpelt's. He suddenly felt guilty and vulnurable. Spottedpelt was Badgerstep's closest friend; would she approve him as her new mate? Though Jaggedstripe's answer was solved when Spottedpelt gave him a tiny smile, and he could see the amusement in her eyes even from a distance. The gray tom blinked at her as a "thank you". Spottedpelt did nothing more before retreating to the warriors' den.
