Nettlepaw cheerfully squeezed through the gorse tunnel, and emerged with a rough shake of his thick pelt to get loose thorns out. Followed by Runningleap, he craned his neck so he could see if Applepaw came, and then blushed when he realized how mousebrained he would've looked.
"Okay, Nettlepaw, where should we hunt?" he prompted, once again wanting to see what he had learned. After all, Nettlepaw was going to be an apprentice soon, so he wanted to make sure he was prepared. "Maybe we could go down to Sunningrocks, since there will be more life near sources of water, and prey could be hiding in between the stones" Nettlepaw meowed after a moment of silence, holding his chin in the air as Runningleap gave him a nod of approval.
With a flick of his tail, Runningleap turned and padded off into the undergrowth, casting a few glances over his shoulder every now and then to make sure Applepaw and Nettlepaw were behind him.

Applepaw knew she was severely lacking when it came to skill. In fact, she really couldn't remember ever going hunting. Yes she knew the basics, every kit in the nursery knew the basics. The red tabby followed after Nettlepaw and his mentor. It really did feel strange being without her own mentor. She could do this....she felt a gaze on her and looked to see it was only Nettlepaw. Was he checking up on her? That was kinda sweet in a way.
She watched as warrior questioned apprentice and wondered what it would be like when she was asked the same questions. She knew she had a long time before she was ready for that, but still a cat could dream, right? Runningleap seemed to be happy with Nettlepaw's answer, and Applepaw had to admit, it sounded good to her. Then again, she was still learning the territory and well..everything.
She did her best to keep up, trying not to let her lack of experience slow the group down. Unfortunately the she-cat's short attention span soon came into play. Applepaw would hear a sound and slow down to see where it was coming from, forgetting what she was doing. When she realized she was about to get left, she would quicken her pace and try to catch up. She was breathing heavily and was wondering if they were going to be there anytime soon. "Are...we...close?"

Runningleap's pace coincidentally slowed when Applepaw asked if they were close to Sunningrocks yet, and he cast a glance over his shoulder. "Of course, we're already here" he called out, emerging into a sunny clearing where the large, flat stones of Sunningrocks lay before them. Nettlepaw however, stalked forward, and parted his jaws to breathe in any prey-scent. Suddenly, he stiffened, and he swiftly padded toward a large crack in the stone, carefully leaning down so he could comfirm his scenting. His paw suddenly lashed out, and when he pulled back, a small mouse was held between his claws. Killing it with a swift bite to the neck, Nettlepaw looked up to see if Runningleap would praise him for his catch.

Applepaw tried to keep the same pace as the two toms, but her inexperience sure was showing. If only she could have pushed herself a little more in training. When they finally approached their destination she let out a sigh of relief. It felt good to have the sun on her back and she grinned with amusement. If only there were here for leisure, then she could just sprawl out and warm herself.
She watched as Nettlepaw began his search. He looked so intent on catching something. She sat down and watched, observing his every move. "Nice catch! I didn't even know there was something there."
she admitted. Applepaw was impressed. Maybe Nettlepaw really could help her in her training. "How did you scent something in between the cracks?" she asked. That was new to her...well everything was but especially scenting prey in cracks. She had barely had any training with prey in the forest. This must be quite challenging. Nettlepaw grinned in satisfaction and delight when Applepaw congratulated him on his catch. Runningleap agreed, saying something about his good sense of smell. But over all, he instead focused on Applepaw, almost ignoring his mentor. Runningleap only smiled, as if he understood what was going on. Smiling slightly, he cleared his throat and meowed, "I'm going to take a look by the river, you two should hunt over here," before turning and trotting off toward the RiverClan border.
Nettlepaw cast a glance over his shoulder at his mentor, blinking at him in appreciation for giving him some alone time with Applepaw so he could teach her a few things about hunting. Turning back toward her, he dropped the mouse at her paws and smiled his smile, eyes warm with amusement. "It's not that hard, actually. You just need to push yourself a bit, focus on every scent more than you'd usually do," he meowed casually, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. Nettlepaw flicked his tail toward Sunningrocks. "Hey, why don't you give it a try?" he encouraged.
