It was dusk, the day coming to an end. The sun was setting off in the distance, throwing purple-blue colors up into the sky. A small breeze swept through Shadowclan's camp, causing Hornetpaw to shiver. Her long fur bristled to keep out the slight wind.
Hornetpaw's golden-amber eyes flashed to the apprentice den. She wanted to get to sleep but it seemed too energy-wasting considering she was lying on her side. "Ugh, I'm too lazy and tired to get up," the black cat mumbled, flicking her tail. she lay there for a while, hoping someone would come and give her some company.

Stormpaw bounded into camp, a small quirrel hanging from his jaws before he dropped it onto the fresh-kill pile. He let his gaze wander around camp, briefly watching the kits play by the Nursery, and then to the elders sharing tongues. Finally though, his eyes fixed on Hornetpaw, and he seemed to brighten.
"Hi, Hornetpaw!" he meowed cheerfully, craning his head down so he could look at her. It was an amusing sight to see; Hornetpaw lying down on her side, trying to get up. But he didn't want to tease her about it, so he just kept quiet and waited for her response

Hornetpaw's golden gaze followed the other apprentice as he put a squirrel on the fresh kill pile. She watched his paws as they walked over to her, and she wondered if he was going to say anything or just keep walking to the apprentice den. "Hey Stormpaw!" She said cheerfully, flicking her tail. The apprentice could tell that Stormpaw thought she looked amusing, trying to get up, so she pulled herself to her paws and shook her pelt.
"Good catch," She commented, gesturing to the squirrel on the fresh kill pile. The she-cat sat back down, wrapping her tail around her dainty paws neatly. Flicking her ear, she looked at the sunset. "So... how was your day?"

Stormpaw grinned at Hornetpaw's praise. "Thanks! Too bad though, it was the only thing I could find," he explained, looking disappointed for a moment before regaining his friendly posture.
"I guess it was normal, as usual. Nothing exciting ever happens," he sighed, a distant look in his blue eyes. "How 'bout you?" he changed the subject, angeling his ears toward Hornetpaw as a sign that he was interested in talking to her.

Hornetpaw smiled at the other apprentice, keeping a friendly look. "That may be true, but with the prey-scarcity a squirrel is a good catch," She mewed warmly, hoping to encourage the tom. "The elders will be happy to have the mouse."
The black she-cat rolled her eyes and sighed. "I wish something exciting would happen. Like you said, nothing interesting happens." After listening to Stormpaw's question, there was a moments pause. She considered it, then answered. "Eh, it was a routine day. I woke up, went on a border patrol, changed the elder's bedding."

Stormpaw brightened at Hornetpaw's praise, and felt his fur grow warm at the kindness in her voice as she spoke. "Thanks, Hornetpaw." he smiled fondly, his eyes shining with a strange, warm gleam for a moment before returning to their usual bright appearance.
"Yeah.. hey, the gathering must be coming up soon, so that could be something exciting!" he suggested, a grin spreading across his face at the idea. Maybe he could even go with Hornetpaw if they both got chosen. He felt his heart lift at the thought of it.

Hornetpaw saw the slight gleam in Stormpaw's eye for a moment, and she was confused. But before she could try to figure out what it was, it left. She shook it off, then smiled at the apprentice. She flicked her ears when he mentioned the gathering. "I hadn't thought of that! Yeah, it would be fun, if we get picked to go," the she-cat said, looking at Stormpaw happily. "Then we could just hang out for a while. What do you think the other clans will have to say?"

Stormpaw simply shrugged. "They'll probably just do the usual routine; how their prey is running, new kits, you know." he yawned in boredom, imagining the gathering being less exciting than he'd think. But of course, gatherings were always exciting, but he knew he'd get used to them sooner or later.
"All is well in ThunderClan; prey is running well, and we have accepted two more kittypets into our Clan. We're as soft as ever, and are completely vulnurable to an attack," he mocked Hawkstar's deep, booming voice as he puffed out his chest and held his chin high in the air. For a few more moments, he kept his serious face as he fixed Hornetpaw with his "Hawkstar" gaze, but then burst into a bout of hysterical laughing. He had to admit; he did a pretty good imitation.

"Yeah, but maybe something interesting happened! Like a fox attack!" She sighed, then realized it was unlikely.Oh well, gatherings were fun anyways. You got to talk to other clans, even if you didn't know them. She flicked her tail. I hope I get to go...
Pulling away from her thoughts, she looked at Stormpaw as he started doing his mock voice. Hornetpaw raised an eyebrow at him, staring him down. When the apprentice started "glaring" at her, she blinked and started burst into a fit of giggles. "No, he looks more like this," She said, still laughing. Narrowing her eyes into slits, she focused on Stormpaw until her eyes got slightly blurry. Trying to look mean, she realized that she wasn't good at it and snorted before stopping.

Stormpaw finally began to catch his breath, Hornetpaw had attempted to imitate Hawkstar's mean appearance. He lost his breath once again, and rolled around on the ground mrrowing in amusement. When his laughter finall ceased, he sat up - fur ruffled - and smiled at Hornetpaw."Oh come on, that was actually really good!" he grinned, refering to her Hawkstar imitation from moments before. Alright, maybe Stormpaw was lying just a bit, but he didn't want to upset Hornetpaw. After all, she was his best friend.

When Hornetpaw stopped, she was surprised to see that her friend was laughing. She laughed at him rolling around, then flicked her tail and smiled. "That wasn't really good... plus, I don't like looking mean," The apprentice meowed, tilting her head.
Shaking her fur, she looked at the sky. The sun was just a little lower than it had been when she had first looked at it, and the colors where a bit richer and darker. Her paws ached slightly, from patrolling today. "So.." The she-cat didn't know what to talk about now, so she left the sentence hanging.

Stormpaw tilted his head to the side in faint confusion. Hornetpaw didn't like to look mean? Did that mean she didn't like to fight either? If Stormpaw was correct, he found it somewhat admirable for Hornetpaw to be so thoughtful like that.
When he realized how mouse-brained he must've looked as he admired Hornetpaw, he quickly craned his neck back so he could look up at the sky, and let his gaze fall back on her with a straight face. Whenever Stormpaw was embarrassed, or he was blushing, he looked up at the sky so he could get a little time to regain a normal looking appearance.
"... Wanna share tongues?" Stormpaw asked casually, finishing Hornetpaw's question with a friendly grin. It wasn't considered unusual for the two of them to share tongues; in fact, it was something that did often, and they'd exchange word after going on seperate patrols or from the elders' stories. But secretly, Stormpaw liked to share tongues with Hornetpaw because he got to feel the warmth and softness of her fur, which comforted and relaxed him without fail.

The she-cat noticed that Stormpaw was looking at her, and she wondered why. Hornetpaw watched as the tom looked to the sky, and after a moment, tilted his head back towards her. She listened to his question, then answered without a moment's pause. "Sure," she meowed cheerfully, a grin spreading on her face The apprentice didn't know why, but when others started smiling or laughing she found it contagious. The black she-cat started grooming Stormpaw's fur, rasping her tongue over it rythmically and waiting for him to start a conversation.

Stormpaw purred in delight and shuffled closer to Hornetpaw until their fur was brushing. He felt a warm shiver run down his spine, and he closed his eyes for a brief moment as Hornetpaw began to groom his fur. Remembering that he was supposed to share tongues also, he began to groom her fur also, but then stopped drubtly as an idea popped into his head, one that could possibly spark up another conversation.
"Hey, you know how the prey is getting scarcer? Well, what if it's not just getting scarcer, but disappearing?" he asked suddenly, frowning as if in deep thought. The warmth of Hornetpaw's body beside him comforted him, but as hard as he tried he couldn't get the troubling thought out of his mind.

Hornetpaw purred slightly, feeling warm as the two apprentice's fur brushed. She continued grooming Stormpaw's fur, and she stopped suddenly when he brought up the prey scarcity. "What would be eating the prey?" The apprentice asked, stiffening. She was personally worried about it, but she rationalized that she was just over-reacting.
"...... Stormpaw, are you worried that the prey might disappear all together, eventually?" She asked, shivering at the thought. Hornetpaw didn't even want to think about it, but it creeped into her mind and made her get chills.
