Stormpaw was even more troubled at Hornetpaw's suggestions, and he shuddered. How could the prey disappear, though? It's not like there was anything eating it besides ShadowClan, so how is there less and less prey? Greenleaf was even approaching, and that still didn't change anything.
"I don't know... You know what? I think we should just stop worrying about nothing, and talk about other stuff. Agreed?" he asked, smiling to lift the tension that had suddenly filled the air. Without waiting for an answer, Stormpaw continued to groom Hornetpaw's fur in slow, comforting licks. He wanted to reassure her, and even himself. Fear suddenly gathered up in his belly, and he pressed further into Hornetpaw's fur, trying not to think about prey.

Hornetpaw nodded uneasily, and continued to groom the tom's fur. She shivered again, pressing closer to Stormpaw. As much as she tried to shove it to the back of her mind, the thought of prey kept showing up. Would prey really continue dissappearing? What would the clans do if it did?
Shaking off the thoughts, Hornetpaw looked at the other apprentice and smiled, trying to comfort both of them. "So," she said, trying to think of something else to talk about. "Anything new you've heard around camp?"

Stormpaw was glad to change the subject, and relaxed a bit as Hornetpaw pressed closer against him. While grooming her sleek, black fur, he thought for a few moments. "Well, I heard that Foxstar was going to mentor Blossomkit himself," he meowed. Having a leader mentor an apprentice was rare, and even more unusual when they'd pick an easy-going, fun kit to mentor. Everyone in the Clan enjoyed Blossomkit however; she always found a way to cheer someone up.
"I also heard that Jaggedstripe became mates with Badgerstep, which is kinda funny, since he's such a mean-looking warrior," he laughed, amused at the thought of Jaggedstripe doing Badgerstep's every command. Though when he brought up the matter of mates, Hornetpaw suddenly appeared in his mind, and for a moment he was dazed by the happy memories that he remembered when they first became apprentices. When he became aware of his surroundings once more, a confused expression crossed his face as he tried to make sense of what'd just happened.

"Oh joy, I can see Foxstar mentoring Blossomkit now.... 'Blossompaw, pay attention'," She meowed the last part in a deep, gruff voice. Then she replied to herself, in a soft, kit-like voice, "But... there's a butterfly!" Hornetpaw laughed slightly at it, then smiled at the next part.
"Hm... That last one could be true. Badgerstep's been in alot better mood lately," the black she-cat said, thinking about how the secluded warrior had been so outgoing and happy the past few days. She cast a sideways glance at Stormpaw, and saw him confused. "Stormpaw, what's wrong? You look kind of confused."
While Hornetpaw asked him that, a Black and white warrior had heard a bit of their conversation. Trotting up to the two apprentices, Badgerstep tilted her head. Her yellow eyes sparked with curiousity, and she twitched her whiskers. "Whaa? What are you two talking about? I heard my name," The cat flicked her tail, smiling at Stormpaw and Hornetpaw as she waited for an answer.

Stormpaw giggled at Hornetpaw's imitation of Foxstar, and imagined what the two would look like when Blossomkit finally became an apprentice. Listening to Hornetpaw's next response, he nodded in agreement. Badgerstep did seem a bit giddy for th last couple of days. But Stormpaw wasn't complaining; he liked the new, energetic and up-beat Badgerstep.
When Hornetpaw said that he looked confused, he blushed a bit and wondered if he should tell her about his thoughts. Strangely feeling embarrassed, he scuffled his paws in the dirt. "Well.. it's just that.. you crossed my mind when -" he cut short when he heard pawsteps approaching, and looked up to see Badgerstep. On the inside though, he was relieved that Badgerstep had interupted him in his sentence. Stormpaw didn't know what Hornetpaw would think of his strange encounter, nor how she would react.

Hornetpaw looked up, seeing Badgerstep. Speak of the cat, She thought, then twitched her whiskers. "Oh, we were talking about how Stormpaw had heard... that you and Jaggedstripe had become mates... Is it true?" She asked, mischeif gleamed slightly in her eyes as she asked the warrior.
The she-cat laughed, then looked at the black apprentice. "Yes, it's true. Try not to gossip too much, though. That makes some cats rotten," Badgerstep mewed, then walked back towards the warrior den. Slipping into it, she lay down in the nest she shared with Jaggedstripe, and closed her eyes.
"Okay," Hornetpaw started, looking back at Stormpaw. "Why did you look so confused?" Flicking her tail, she went back to grooming the tom's fur.

Stormpaw snorted when Badgerstep told them not to gossip too much, and sighed in relief as she left to the warriors' den. He was about to return to grooming Hornetpaw's fur when she had asked him yet again why he had looked so confused before. Blushing again, he wished that he could just keep it to himself, but he knew Hornetpaw would keep asking him if he did.
"Um, well.. anyway, uh.. it's just that, you crossed my mind, when I mentioned Jaggedstripe and Badgerstep being.. mates," he finally meowed after a moment's hesitation. He didn't know how Hornetpaw would react to something like this, and Stormpaw didn't even know what it meant yet.

"... Oh, um," Hornetpaw mewed, and felt herself blush furiously. Her amber eyes looked at the ground, not knowing what to say. Why can't you think of what to say, mousebrain! The she-cat thought, imagining herself looking dumb by just sitting there. "okay," She finally said.
She looked at her paws, suddenly fascinated with them. Then she glanced away from them, flicking her tail. Hornetpaw stared up at the sky, watching the last bit of the day start sinking into the horizon. "The sunset's so beautiful," The apprentice thought out loud, admiring the last strips of color in the sky.

Stormpaw held his breath while he waited for Hornetpaw's response, and was embarrassed when he saw how uncomfortable she looked. But her face also looked a bit red, actually, very red, and Stormpaw tilted his head to the side curiously.
He realized that a dreadful silence had filled the air between them, and he was about to say something when Hornetpaw commented on the sunset. Instinctively he glanced upwards, and saw what she was referring to. He caught his breath, as his gaze stared at the colorful sky above him. It was filled with orange, purple, dark blue and yellow darkening colors and the stars of Silverpelt began to faintly shine through the light. "You're right..." he breathed, still admiring the sunset.
As he imagined himself reaching up and catching one of the stars, Stormpaw's tail flicked and accidentally landed on Hornetpaw's. Embarrassed once again, he quickly jerked it away when he realized what he was doing. "Sorry, it does that sometimes..." he muttered quietly, not meeting Hornetpaw's gaze so she wouldn't see the redness in his face.

"It's quite a sight, isn't it?" Hornetpaw inquired, staring intranced at the rich hues. She shuffled her paws, gazing at the stars barely shining in the colors. It's so pretty... and flawless, she thought, thinking about how everything seemed to look perfect up there. The apprentice wondered what it would be like to live in the silverpelt.
Shaking herself from her thoughts, she realized that while Stormpaw put his tail on top of hers, she had twisted them together. "Sorry," she echoed, embaressed for a second. "It's okay, tails have a mind of their own," The she-cat smiled, trying to get out of this being awkward.

Stormpaw felt encouraged by the lightness of Hornetpaw's voice, and he relaxed a bit. Craning his neck backwards, he looked up at the sky; but not to admire its fascinating colors. Blinking a few times, he looked back at Hornetpaw, the redness in his face gone.
"Yeah," he grinned, the awkwardness that lingered around them the air slowly lifting. "Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a StarClan cat?" he asked suddenly, his gaze fixed on the sky again as the star began to make themselves more bright for all to see. Wonder shined in his blue eyes, the stars' lights reflected in them. For a moment, he felt like all his problems disappeared as he became lost in the endless sea of stars.

"I wonder about it all the time. I'd be so.. imaginary to me. I wish I was a medicine cat sometimes, so I could talk to Starclan cats," Hornetpaw admitted, smiling up at the stars above them. ".... My dad and brother are up there," The apprentice commented, reffering to her adoptive family. After all, she still didn't know who her real family was. The clan perfered to keep it from her; Having a dead mother and a father that left to become a rogue is pretty devastating, right? So they just never told her.

Stormpaw wasn't surprised by Hornetpaw's answer. He often wondered the same too, only he could never really grasp the concept of being a StarClan cat. Well, he believes in StarClan, of course, but he just couldn't imagine what it's like to be one. Sighing, he felt exhaustion through his limbs.
Stormpaw felt a pang of sympathy for Hornetpaw, and frowned for a few moments. He had never lost anyone in his family, and he felt guilty that things were worse for Hornetpaw. Shyly, he rasped his tongue across her ear in an attempt to comfort her. His fur prickled in a strange sensation, but he tried to ignore it.

Hornetpaw looked at her friend and smiled, nudging his shouder. "Thanks," the she-cat said, letting him know she was grateful for him trying to comfort her. Standing up, she stretched out her paws slowly, then stood straight and looked at Stormpaw.
"So... should we be getting to sleep?" The black cat asked, pointing towards the apprentice's den with her tail. "Since the sun's about to go down completely," She mewed, then raised a paw and licked it, drawing it over her ear.

Stormpaw purred in response and felt a bit disppointed when Hornetpaw left his side, his fur turning cold where hers had been. Deciding to not lay around for the rest of the night, he rose to his paws as well.
When she mentioned heading to sleep, his hopes lifted slightly. "Yeah.. we probably should. Oh, hey! Um, do you want.. to, uh.. share a nest with me, tonight?" he asked, feeling his ear growing warm in ebarrassment. He felt mouse-brained for asking something like that, and knew that Hornetpaw would probably reject him.
