The harsh midday sunlight streaked through the branches, casting a pattern of dapples across the forest floor. A young she-cat sat alone on a large tree root, her pure white fur blazing with fire-red patches. Fireblossom sighed deeply, her ice blue eyes resting firmly on her small, neat paws, which scraped at the root's bark impatiently. Her ears were pricked, and her long tail lashed in frustration.
By all accounts, it seemed like she was waiting for something, but what? Ever since the death of her mother, then subsequently, her mentor, Fireblossom had felt like a stranger in her own Clan. With no kin to speak of, the she-cat never quite felt as if she belonged. Despite this, she would die for her Clan, as she had promised at her warrior ceremony almost six moons ago. With another dejected sigh, she slithered down from the root, muttering to herself. What's the point of being the best warrior I can be if I don't have anyone to share it with?""

Amberpelt slithered and weaved through the trees, he jaws parted to catch any prey-scent and her ears pricked for any sounds of leaves rustling. A faint meow sounded from ahead of her, and she thought she recognized the voice. Fireblossom? Bounding forward, she confirmed her guess as she caught Firebossom's scent near a tree root. "Hey, are you alright?" Amberpelt pressed curiously, stepping in front of the white and ginger warrior. She looked almost depressed, she noticed.

Cedarpaw had to get away from camp, it was to much for her and she needed to be alone. Ugh i hate being stuck in camp! she thought. She stopped in and saw the two warriors. Great now i'm in trouble she thought.

Amberpelt heard a rustling noise beside her and a fresh scent of ThunderClan, which wasn't Fireblossom's. "Huh - Cedarpaw? What are you doing out here without a warrior?" she meowed, narrowing her eyes in annoyance. She liked apprentices, but not when they couldn't follow the simplest of rules. Though she wasn't going to scold her just for taking a walk; surely Cedarpaw wasn't up to anything?

Lightstep came upon the group of cats as she made her way back to camp, a mouse hanging from her jaws. Light orange ears flicked as she heard Amberpelt question Cedarpaw, who was apparently out of camp without a warrior. Feeling generous, she rounded the tree and schooled her expression into that of annoyance, which was easier than it should have been. Setting her catch down at her paws, Lightstep's green eyes found the apprentice's telling her silently to play along. "Cedarpaw, that's where you went!" She improvised wildly, deciding to save her clanmate from trouble, though she had a feeling her actions would come back and haunt her one day. "I'm sorry, we were patrolling and I turn around to catch this mouse, which so conveniently scampered across our path, and she must have wandered away. But everything's fine now." She cast a small smile at the two warriors, trying to reassure them and hoping they would not poke logic shaped holes in her story.
Dipping her head to both warriors, Lightstep offered a delayed greeting, "Hello Fireblossom, Amberpelt. You look... troubled, Fireblossom." The light orange she-cat flicked her tail, and she glanced at the apprentice again, trying to judge her reaction to the improvised story. The lie had not been a very strong one, but it was a possibility. She hoped that both she and Cedarpaw had come from the same direction, but as she had not been tracking the apprentice, Lightstep could not know.

Amberpelt perked her ears as she heard another cat approaching, and she turned to find Lightstep emerging from a few bushes. "It's no problem at all, as long as it was an accident," she returned Lightstep's smile, though the suspicious gleam in her eyes hadn't left.
Finally, after debating wether or not to question Lightstep, Amberpelt decided that she should just leave her alone and stop being so nosy. When she noted how Fireblossom appeared, Amberpelt only shrugged. She didn't know why Fireblossom was acting so strangely, but she wouldn't press for any answers if it would make her upset.

Fireblossom watched as Amberpelt emerged from the undergrowth, her soft pelt thick and glossy. Newleaf is treating us well, she thought to herself absently, flicking her ears as a drop of dew splashed against them. With a deep sigh, she forced herself to smile at Amberpelt. She was only trying to help.
"Well, you see, lately, I've just been feeling very --" She broke off, suddenly aware of a rustling in the undergrowth. A few heartbeats passed before Cedarpaw bundled through the trees, scowling to herself. Fireblossom watched silently as Amberpelt questioned the apprentice, her ears pricked in interest. She stayed silent as a third cat picked her way through the undergrowth with her jaws full of fresh-kill. She waved her tail as Lightstep in greeting, but did not bother to say hello to either of the newcomers. With an almost inaudible hiss of annoyance, Fireblossom slithered down from the tree root and began to stalk off, parting the undergrowth loudly as she went.

Leaving her Clanmates behind, the white and ginger she-cat padded absently through the forest, not quite paying attention to where she was going. Before she knew it, she felt a cool breeze ripple across her fur, and she looked up to find herself on the verge of WindClan territory. She had berely even noticed as she padded through Fourtrees, which had been eerily silent in the daylight. Opening her jaws to taste the air, Fireblossom crouched down as the scent of a WindClan warrior hit her throat.

Tornshadow bounded across the moore, his eyes narrowed as he chased a scrawny rabbit. His fur was buffeted by the win as his lean muscles rippled under his thick pelt. Making a massive leap, he landed squarely on the rabbit's back and swiftly bit it's neck. While he gave thanks to StarClan however, he noticed a white and ginger she-cat crouching on the other side of the WindClan border.
At first, Tornshadow wasn't sure if he should interact with this ThunderClanner. He thought for a moment longer, and decided to leave. It wouldn't do any good to appear unloyal to his Clan. Turning, he began to pad away. Though he couldn't help but feel a strange presence about that ThunderClanner, and for a moment thought of turning back to watch her again.

Fireblossom watched as the large WindClan tom brought down a rabbit with well-practiced ease. He stared at her, and for a few heartbeats, their eyes locked, and Fireblossom's heart raced, pounding against her ribcage like it wanted to escape. She tilted her head as he began to walk away, wondering why he didn't attack her. She was only a few foxlengths inside his territory, but still. Any cat as much as a whisker into another Clan's territory was fair game. She watched him pad away, and she felt sad, although she didn't know why. Then, he turned to look back at her, and her heart leapt.
"Um...hello," she meowed, keeping her voice low and level. She scuffled at the ground with her forepaws, then looked back up at him. "That was a nice catch."
Then, she remembered who this cat was. His name was Tornshadow. She had seen him at a couple of Gatherings, but never bothered to introduce herself. Now that she saw him up close, she wondered how a WindClan cat got so big. He looked more like a RiverClan or ThunderClan cat than anything. She looked down at her own long, lean body, and smiled, thinking that she looked more like a WindClan cat than he did! Twitching her ears in amusement, she took a chance and got to her paws, padding a few steps closer to him; then she sat down and curled her tail neatly over her paws.

Tornshadow narrowed his eyes when the she-cat spoke, but he felt a bit glad that she finally said something, otherwise he would've just left her there. Not that he wanted to speak to a cat from another Clan, but this one seemed a bit interesting.
He realized she was inside his territory when he slowly padded toward her, and he tensed his muscles when she came even closer. Twitching his ears, he tried not to tackle her and instead wrapped his tail around his paws like she did. When she complimented his catch, he hesitated for a few brief moments before replying, "Thank you,"
Tornshadow didn't know what to say after that, so he just improvised. Strangely, he found this she-cat captivating, and didn't want to end the conversation so soon. "Why are you on WindClan territory?," he asked, his deep voice rich like sweet honey. Yes, Tornshadow was quite the handsome tom, but he almost never interacte with she-cats, because having a mate would only get in his way of serving his Clan.

Fireblossom watched the large tom as he sat down neatly. She could sense his discomfort at talking to her; she felt the tension crackle in the air like the wind before a storm breaks. She flicked her ears nervously, wondering whether he would attack her. She didn't think he would, otherwise he would've done it by now; but if he did, he was well within his right to do so. She craned her neck to peer back over her shoulder at Fourtrees, which was many foxlengths away. She hadn't realized how far into WindClan territory she had actually gone. Then, he spoke, and she whipped her head back around so fast that she thought she might've given herself whiplash. So he does speak...
"I didn't realize I had strayed this far. I wasn't really paying attention. But I haven't stolen any prey..." she said with an uncertain glance at the fresh-kill by his large paws. As she spoke, her stomach made a loud, protesting growl. She hadn't eaten since sunrise, before she went on the dawn patrol. She flicked her ears back, a look of embarrassment crossing her pretty face. She looked hungrily at the skinny heap of fur laying at the tom's paws, its intoxicating aroma filling her nostrils. Then she looked back up at him. "My name is Fireblossom," she said, waving her tail in greeting. Usually, she was untrusting of other Clans, but there was something about this tom that was different.

Tornshadow would've rolled his eyes at Fireblossom's excuse, and then make a sharp retort or chase her off, but something about her made him stop in his tracks, and instead listen to every word she said, as if he were savoring prey.
When a rumble came from Fireblossom's belly, an incredible thing happened. Tornshadow managed a very tiny smile, and even an inaudible chuckle. You'd never think such a brute would do this in public, and especially not in front of someone from another Clan. He thought about how prey was scarce in all Clans, and how hungry Fireblossom must've been along with himself. Tornshadow knew that he was breaking the warrior code, but he hadn't had this type of social contact in a long time.
"Here," he meowed, pushing the scrawny rabbit forward with a massive paw toward Fireblossom. It wasn't big enough for the both of them, and even though Tornshadow was hungry himself, he knew that he could've just went back to camp and eaten something. And so could she, an annoying voice nagged in his mind. Pushing the thought away, he rolled his broad shoulders for a moment. "Tornshadow," he simply replied. He wasn't one with talking, and even this much was pretty impressive for the independent tom.

The young she-cat tilted her head as he chuckled, letting a small smile of her own light up her delicate features. She was surprised when he pushed the rabbit toward her, offering it to her to eat. Normally, she wouldn't trust a cat from another Clan, nor take their prey, but as she angled her ears backward, toward ThunderClan territory, she could detect no sound of prey. Swallowing her pride, she crouched down and bit hungrily into the rabbit, but managed to keep her composure and eat with small, neat bites, lashing her tail from side to side to show her gratitude. When she had finished, she swiped her small pink tongue over her lips and sat up, her eyes fixed on her paws. She was ashamed that she had allowed a WindClan warrior to feed her, but the emptiness in her belly was fading, and she was having a hard time regretting her decision.
Then, a rustling in the undergrowth behind her caught her attention, and she pricked her ears. Then, she flicked her tail gently, grazing Tornshadow's shoulder with just the whisper of a touch, telling him to stay still. Slowly and carefully, she turned around and began to stalk through the undergrowth, placing each paw lightly so as to make as little sound as possible. Then, with a mighty leap, she pounced into a clump of ferns, and padded out a moment later with a plump vole in her jaws. She smiled through her mouthful and set her catch down at the tomcat's paws, waving her tail in welcome. Now, her debt was paid and the WindClan warrior had nothing over her. She could walk away now and not feel like she owed him anything. But when she thought of walking away, back to ThunderClan territory, her heart sank. She loved her Clan, but with no kin left alive and no close friends, she felt like such an outsider. But here, in this moment, with this stoic and strong WindClan warrior, Fireblossom felt a strong surge of emotion. This just felt...right, and she couldn't explain it.
Just as Tornshadow finished the vole, Fireblossom scented a WindClan patrol, rapidly approaching. With a nervous flick of the ears, she looked at Tornshadow, wondering what to do. She didn't want to leave the WindClan tom just yet, but she also didn't want to be shredded by a WindClan patrol. Making a quick decision, she turned her paws back to her own territory, with an anguished glance back at Tornshadow.
"Meet me at Fourtrees. Tonight at moonhigh. Please," she said, her mismatched gaze filled with emotion. This was the first time she had truly felt alive since her mother died, and she refused to give it up that easily. Without waiting for his answer, she dashed off into the cover of the trees, back to ThunderClan territory.

Tornshadow felt his fur tingle where Fireblossom's tail had brushed it, and he admired how swift she was on her paws as she seemed to stalk her prey. When she returned with a vole, he rolled his eyes, but in amusement this time, and gulped it down in a couple of famished bites.
Suddenly, a fresh scent of WindClan cats drifted toward them, and he realized that a patrol was approaching. Though for some reason, he didn't want to leave Fireblossom. Something about her just captivated him, and his heart sank as she turned to leave. Just as he was about to do the same, he pricked his ears in interest when she told him to meet her at Fourtrees that moonhigh, and his blue eyes lit up with hope.
"I will," his voice was barely a whisper as Fireblossom dashed away into ThunderClan territory, and a pleasant yet unfamiliar sensation tingled in his paws. As he turned to leave, Fireblossom never left his thoughts, and even though he knew he would be breaking the warrior code, he was itching to meet the ThunderClan she-cat again.
