Nettlepaw twitched his whiskers somewhat nervously, but tried to appear cool. What if Applepaw didn't even want to go hunting with him? That single thought lingered through his mind like a bur that got caught in his thick fur. Though when she agreed, he didn't relax. Nettlepaw knew that she was probably only saying that so she wouldn't hurt his feelings. Or not.
"That's alright, everyone has things they aren't the best at," he smiled, cocking his head slightly to the left sweetly. "If you want, I can help you." he suggested, flicking his ear in excitement. He was actually going hunting with Applepaw! The independent, pretty, and smart she-cat he fancied. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad, he thought.

Applepaw blinked and shook her head. "Yeah, but I have many things I'm not good at. Hunting is just one of the many things."
She wasn't too great at encouraging herself. That was her brother's job. She was just the overly energetic side-kick. And now he was offering to help? This would be the biggest test. If he really truly wanted to help her, this would be his test to decide if she could trust him. She nodded in agreement. "Okay, you can help me, but you try and do anything mousebrained and break any trust I might have in you and you will never see my face again." she said with a glare. She couldn't afford to get hurt again. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Nettlepaw grinnned but said nothing more. Instead, he would prove to Applepaw that she could be great at hunting, and maybe even better than himself. Though he couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. Goin out with Applepaw? Alone? Well, their mentors would be there, but it would really add some pressure on Nettlepaw's shoulders.
When Applepaw fixed him a stone-hard glare, he surpressed a shudder as sudden realization coursed through him. Was he that unapprochable? He knew that Applepaw wasn't one to cooperate with others, but how could she not give him just a bit of trust? Nettlepaw only wanted to help her, nothing else. I'm sorry, Applepaw. I would never do anything to make you upset," he meowed quietly, feeling a strange sensation tingle through his paws as he noticed that his words were true.

Applepaw's gaze softened. She didn't mean to sound that harsh.."I know you won't, I just have been hurt enough in the past, I can't take anymore."
she mewed, not wanting to go deeper than that, maybe later if she did end up trusting him, but for now no. Looking at the rabbit, she tried to ease any tension, by taking another big gulp, and the remains ending up once again on her whiskers and all over her face. "Do I have anything on my face?" she asked innocently, not able to stop herself from grinning. She was having fun, and fun with toms was not something Applepaw did well.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

From the look Applepaw gave him, Nettlepaw knew that she didn't mean to snap at him like that. Of course he forgve her. "Alright, but I hope this doesn't mean that I have to fufill your every wish," he teased, lashing his tail in excitement.
"Er, I think you have something right.." he giggled, holding up a paw in fornt of Applepaw's face. ".. here." he finally laughed, not being able to hide his grin as he waved his paw over her entire face. Bits of rabbit clung to her whiskers, and some were stuck to the fur around her muzzle. It was quite an amusing sight, indeed.

The grin widened on her face and she rolled her eyes. "Of course you do! I'm just special like that and every wish I have must be fulfilled or else..."
Applepaw trailed off as she became distracted by the sight of her brother walking into the camp. He waved his tail toward her as he passed and she grinned. He seemed excited that she was actually speaking with another cat. She wasn't going to let him down. Watching where his paw went, she couldn't help but laugh. Her brother was staring at her like she had two heads or something. Maybe she should clean her face...beginning the process she washed what she could get. "Did I get it all?" Applepaw asked Nettlepaw. "I would hate to have food all over my face. Not really attractive, right?" she added.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Nettlepaw took now notice as Applepaw's brother strolled into camp, and instead kept his friendly gaze fixed on Applepaw. "Yeah, I think." he meowed, looking for any remaining bits of rabbit that she may have missed when she had washed her face.
"You're attractive with or without fresh-kill on your face," he blurted out, then realizing what he had just said, he blushed a bit and looked away quickly. "Er, I mean, that's what I've been told.." he stammered lamely. Good job, mouse-brain! Now she thinks I'm only talking to her because she's pretty. he thought miserably in his mind.

"Good, thank you. I'm going to somewhat trust you on that. So you better not let me down."
Applepaw was somewhat teasing, but her tone was serious. Trusting the tom with small things was best for now, the bigger issues could come later. She was taking small pawsteps toward this little friendship, if she could call them friends yet. Yeah, maybe they were friends, she could go that far. Nettlepaw thought she was attractive? Pfft, yeah right. She was just an ordinary she-cat. She didn't feel attractive at all. When he began to cover his tracks she smirked a little. "Really? If that is what you have been told who did you hear it from? I'd love to hear names." Now Applepaw was in full teasing mode. This had not happened in several moons, and it was nice to actually be able to not act shy all the time.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Nettlepaw froze. He had not expected Applepaw to ask him who thought she was attractive, and if he lied to her, she would only ask those cats to see if it was true. And worse, he might break her trust if he lied. Scuffling his paws in the dirt, he flicked an ear nervously.
"W-well, I.. I.." he stammered, trying to figure out what to say. Lie, or not to lie? Of course Nettlepaw wouldn't lie to Applepaw, not even if his apprentice name depended on it. "Me.." he muttered quietly, not daring to meet her teasing gaze. Nettlepaw just didn't want Applepaw to make fun of him.

Applepaw waited patiently for an answer, or well as patient as her attention span would allow. This included staring at whoever walked nearby, or anywhere in camp. If she heard a sound her eyes would shift to where she had heard it. When he began to stammer, she felt a little better about herself. At least she wasn't the only one who did that. But really, was he just gonna make her wait? She was getting bored.
When he finally spoke, her mouth opened wide as she gawked at him. He really was the one who had been saying all those things? She had been joking with him earlier. But he really looked serious. "Well at least you are honest, I like that."
Applepaw had to give it to the tom, he was doing good with not lying to her. "I've always thought you were quite handsome. And I would rather it be you to think that than anyone else." she threw in, hoping that would stop him from not looking at her, but felt herself blushing. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Nettlepaw was surprised by Applepaw's calm reaction, ad he finally challenged himself to look at her. He did not find scorn in her gaze, and instead for once wasn't able to read her expression. Though she was slightly blushing, which was a start. "..." Nettlepaw was having trouble speaking. His chest tightened, and he found it difficult to even open his jaws.
Finally, he decided not to look like a fool by just staring at Applepaw, and shyly respsonded, "W-well.. I thought the toms were the ones who were complimenting the she-cats." His voice was shaking a bit, but amusement could be found in it. That and something else that was somewhat cheerful. "Er, I'm not saying that she-cats can't say anything to toms.." he hastily added. It was quite amusing to see Nettlepaw so shy like this, sputtering and scuffling his paws in the dirt as if he was speaking with the most beautiful she-cat of all Clans, which somehow to him, was true.

Applepaw had actually made the tom go speechless? Oh dear StarClan, she didn't mean for that to happen. What now? She surely couldn't speak, she was too horrified at herself. Why did she do such a thing? She was so mousebrained.
Grinning at his response she shook her head. "Well I'm not like every she-cat. I tend to do my own things, in case you haven't noticed. I don't really know how any of this works, I just go with whatever."
she mewed. She was so used to hanging out with her brother, it really had been far too long since she had done anything like a 'normal' she-cat. She grinned as he explained himself further. "You know you have a harder time with words than I do, but I know what you mean." she teased, her tail slightly touching his shoulder. She jerked it back quickly when she realized what she had done. "Sorry, it has a mind of its own." she tried to cover up.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Nettlepaw smiled after a few brief moments, and it soon turned into a grin. "Yeah, I've realized," he returned Applepaw's smirk, calming down a bit. When she said that he was harder with words than she was, he opened his jaws to protest, but was cut off the the warm feeling of soft fur brushing against his shoulder. His blush returned, and he grew hot under his fur.
"H-huh?" he stammered, not realizing that Applepaw was talking about her tail. When he did though, strangely he longed for the feeling of her fur against his again, even if it was just her tail. "Oh, that' alright. I mean, sometimes they just move by themselves depending on how you're feeling..." he swallowed, not knowing wether or not he should do what he wanted to do, but worse, he was scared that he couldn't stop himself. "... like this?" Nettlepaw's tail swiftly brushed against Applepaw's, his fur soft and warm. He felt his paws tingle anxiously, but he didn't move away.

Applepaw felt herself become even more embarrassed. Great, way to make a mousebrain of yourself with the tom you actually can stand that isn't related to you. She stared at him blankly for a few moments and shook her head. No, her tail just tended to move whenever, no feelings had to be involved. Though, she would not explain this to him, she would let him think what he thought.
It took her a bit before she realized what had just occurred. Yes, she felt a warm feeling inside, and now on the outside. She froze as she saw that his tail had moved and was on her now. Strangely she actually liked it. This was comforting, and reminded her of being a kit and her parents telling her everything would be okay. No words came out of her mouth as she tried to talk. She just stared at his tail.
After a while she seemed to purr. Wait, she didn't mean to do that either! Stop it! Her body had taken over and her mind wasn't allowing her to stop anything. Applepaw had a fearful look in her eyes as she looked all around. "I--" she just couldn't bring herself to saying anything. This was a new feeling completely.

Nettlepaw was partially relieved that Applepaw didn't move away, but another part of him was was extremely anxious and nervous. He shouldn't be doing his, he realized. When he saw the fearful look in her green eyes, he too became frightened and quickly pulled his tail away from Applepaw's, and he felt more ashamed than embarrassed. "I.. I'm r-really sorry.. I didn't.. m-mean to.." he choked out. I'm so stupid! I blew my chance to be friends with Applepaw.. now she won't even come near me now. he wailed in distress to himself, regretting that he had ever tried to be friends with Applepaw that day.
Though he couldn't push that feeling of longing away, the feeling of warmth and responsability. The feeling that he had to take care of someone. Or more, he wanted to take care of someone. His entire body was warm, and his face was red. Nettlepaw didn't mean for this to happen, truly, but for once he actually enjoyed having someone's fur against his.
