Shadehawk padded into camp. He would see the medicine cat later. His wounds weren't all that bad. He would just be sore in the morning. His tail was intertwined with Hazelbrooks, a popular she-cat in Thunderclan. Cats paused and stopped to look at the two. Some just twitched their whiskers with amusement, some had bright eyes as if to congratulate, and others simply had looks of shock such as 'how could that tom get with someone like her?" in all actuality they were just friends at the moment. Nothing had been settled. He really liked the she-cat, but that was something he was not about to admit.
Shadehawk grumbled and held the gaze of many as he walked in. He wasn't ashamed to be friends with Hazelbrook he wanted to call out to some of the cats in his clan but he realized that this wouldn't get him anywhere. It wasn't fair to him at all or to her."Hazelbrook, you should probably go rest.... It has been a long day after all..."

Hazelbrook had stopped limping conveniently just as she and Shadehawk had entered camp. Her eyes sparkled with joy as others around her shot her suspicious, amused, and shocked glances. She knew it must've been surprising for her Clan mates to see her with a tom like Shadehawk, but it wasn't like they were mates or anything. It was just that, Hazelbrook knew she cared about Shadehawk, but she couldn't say anything for sure yet.
The slightest frown appeared on her face when Shadehawk mentioned rest, but was quickly replaced with an amused smile. "Me? I think you're forgetting about your own rest. I also think that you're forgetting the part where you offered to share a nest with me," she meowed matter-of-factly, twitching her whiskers in amusement. It wasn't as though Hazelbrook was only keen on resting with Shadehawk, but instead she was worried that he would only push himself more instead of resting himself.
He did seem to be scratched up all over, but it also appeared as though Hazelbrook wouldn't stand a chance if she'd asked him to go see the medicine cat. Sighing, she glanced around the clearing briefly, and a pair of gleaming blue eyes burned into her when she realized that it was Shadeclaw. His claws flexed in and out, and something like scorn could be made out in his glare. Why was he angry? In truth, Shadeclaw had been padding after Hazelbrook. But he wasn't looking for someone to share the rest of his life with. He was only keen on producing more strong kits for the Clan.
Hazelbrook knew none of his intentions, but even so, she shuddered. Although he looked a bit alike with Shadehawk, his heart was nothing like his. Quickly escaping from his glare, the calico maine coon returned her gentle gaze up to Shadehawk's eyes, and she patiently waited for a response.

Shadehawk followed Hazelbrooks eyes and stared at Shadeclaw. He drew his lip back but didn't spit or growl. HE was his own clan mate after all. Instead he turned his back on the tom who could have easily been mistaken for his brother. He didn't want anything to do with that tom, neither did half of the clan. Shadehawk couldn't help but role his eyes in disgust. It was a shame that Thunderclan had produced such low life cats such as himself. Such....such a shame. Then again he thought about himself for just a moment. There were times when he acted just like that. The difference? His heart was pure he just didn't show it.
"I never would have forgotten that Hazelbrook." He mewed. He pushed his way into the warrior den. He circled once before making enough room for Hazelbrook in his nest. He flicked his tail to call the she-cat over."It's in the middle warmth wise. Even it being Greenleaf, I find comfort in warmth...It must be something I picked up when I was a kit..." He mewed.
His mind traveled back to Shadeclaw. That look was so strong. Shadehawk couldn't help but let a wave of worriness travel through his body. What on earth would happen to him. If looks could kill, Shadehawk would be in Starclan.

Hazelbrook didn't notice when Shadehawk slightly pulled back his lips in the beginnings of a snarl, and instead purred in delight as he entered the warriors' den. The sun was still shining brightly, it was still sunhigh, and no one else was in the warriors' den to disturb them. For Hazelbrook, it still would've been the perfect scenerio if the den had been cramped with sleeping cats.
Hazelbrook twitched her whiskers in amusement as Shadehawk described his fondness for warmth. It was surprising, for such a solitare tom like himself to enjoy warmth. But Hazelbrook wasn't about to complain, since she also liked warmth, like when she shared tongues with other Clan mates or when the sun's rays shone down on her pelt.
Delicately, she climbed into Shadehawk's nest and lay down beside him. It was just big enough to fit the two of them, but was also the slightest bit cramped. She took no notice, and instead, she gently pressed up against Shadehawk. His scent was overwhelmingly strong, obviously, and Hazelbrook silently took a quick breath in, secretly cherishing the sense of security and reassurance in it. A soft purr rumbled from her throat, vibrating through her entire body.

Shadehawk heard her purr and suddenly snapped back into reality. The way Shadeclaw had stared at her really bothered him. No they weren't mates yet but he was protective over her as if they were. He didn't want her to get hurt. He opened on eye and looked at her. She looked so relaxed so at ease. However part of him wondered if his unease was because of Shadeclaw. Was he still looking? What was he thinking? Shadehawk flicked his ears at the sounds that were coming from outside of the warriors den. What was going on today?
Shadehawk had done his hunting for the day and he knew that he wouldn't be asked to go on another patrol. If he was asked it wouldn't be much before moonhigh. He rested his muzzle on top of she she-cats back. Her warmth kept him calm. He closed his eyes taking in her scent. Were they just best friends or were they mates? It would be a question he would have to get the nerves to ask. The question would be when.

*** Time Skip ***
Hazelbrook stirred in her sleep, faintly confused that something hard, but warm was press up against her. Suddenly, Shadehawk's scent drifted into her nostrils and she realized what happened the day before. She smiled as she recalled the happy events that occured, and shuddered at the rememberence of the hawk.
Sighing, the calico she-cat glanced beside her and watched for a few moments as Shadehawk slept, his much-larger body still as his flanks rose and fell. Gently, she pressed her nose into his shoulder, closing her eyes for a heartbeat, before quietly climbing out of their nest. She shook her fur and gave her chest a few licks, making sure that she at least didn't look like a bush when she emerged from the warriors' den.
She took a deep breath in, purring at the cool, morning air that greeted her. She felt a churning in her stomach suddenly, and she decided to go to the dirt-place. Feeling happier than she'd ever been, she thought about Shadehawk along the way. A shiver ran down her spine simply at the thought of him, and she smiled. "Where are you going, sweet-heart?" a deep voice growled from in front of Hazelbrook and she stumbled backwards in surprise. Shadeclaw?
"Good morning, Shadeclaw. Er, I was only going to the dirt-place tunnel," she meowed quietly, trying to sustain a friendly posture. No doubt, Hazelbrook was friendly with everyone, but Shadeclaw just wasn't one of them. She tried to be polite with him, but he just... he just frightened her. Shadeclaw smirked and padded around Hazelbrook in a circle, eyes narrowing. "Say, we haven't many kits in ThunderClan. Less kits mean less apprentices, and less apprentices mean less warriors to make the Clan stronger," he cooed, while Hazelbrook stood helplessly with a confused and nervous expression on her face.
Shadeclaw chuckled softly and wrapped his tail around Hazelbrook's neck, flicking the bottom of her chin with the tip of it. "How about you and me produce some strong, worthy kits for the Clan?" he whispered into her ear. Hazelbrook's eyes widened and she tried to escape from Shadeclaw but he already had her trapped in a corner of the camp. Now she was trully terrorfied, and she whimpered. "Oh, come on, our kits will be perfect," he smiled crookedly, a fire burning in his icey blue eyes.
"Stay away from me!" she hissed, raising a sheathed paw and swiping it across Shadeclaw's face. She bunched her muscles, just about to dash away, but Shadeclaw was faster. "You annoying little brat!" he snarled. With a flash, he leapt on Hazelbrook and pinned her down. No one noticed a thing because everyone was still sleeping. He growled and pressed his claws to her throat. "You better do what I say, or nothing good will come from it!" he spat. Hazelbrook struggled to free herself but Shadeclaw was too strong. Tears began to flow down her cheek and she shut her eyes tightly, as if it were all just a nightmare.

The dark colored tom flicked his ears. He recalled it getting rather cold. When he looked there was no Hazelbrook. He frowned and looked around. She was no where to be seen in the warriors den. So where had she gone? The black tom stood up and stretched his legs. Since he was awake he might as well go on patrol. His ears caught the sound of a distressed mew. It sounded like Hazelbrook and that was not okay with him. Something must be wrong. He quickly ran out forgetting about how stiff he was from his wound. He told the clan he fell in a briar patch so they wouldn't worry to much about a hawk invading their territory.
Shadehawk spotted Shadeclaw. His whiskers twitched and he pulled his ears back. He drew his lip back into a snarl and padded foward with great speed. He stepped in front of Hazelbrook protectively, a growl rumbling in his throat. He wouldn't attack his own clan mate but if he hurt Hazelbrook he just may make an exception. Although his claws were sheathed his muscles were tensed and would swipe out at any second.
"Get away from her Shadeclaw She is not yours to manhandle like a mouse just recently caught, back away from Hazelbrook and no one will get hurt...." Shadehawk growled again. His tail gently brushing across Hazelbrooks shoulder to comfort the distressed She-cat.

Hazelbrook struggled, trying to free herself from Shadeclaw's grasp when she suddenly saw a flash of brown near the warriors' den. Her frightened gaze became puzzled for a moment, and before Shadehawk could knock Shadeclaw off of her, he had leapt back and bared his teeth in a threatening snarl.
Shadeclaw narrowed his eyes at Shadehawk as he growled at him, and he scoffed in cruel amusement. "Oh really? And what are you going to do about it?" he sneered, the corners of his lips twisting into a mocking smirk. Hazelbrook was surprised at how angry Shadehawk looked and sounded, and she shrank low to the ground, eyes wide with fear and bewilderment.
She felt Shadehawk's bushy tail brush against her shoulder, and she forced herself to relax a bit. However, her fur was still bristling and her ears remained pulled back. Hazelbrook knew that she should've been defending herself, but she just couldn't hurt her own Clan mate, especially in camp. But if Shadehawk hadn't came, she knew she would've had to use force toward Shadeclaw. Part of her didn't want to believe what was going on. Since when did Shadeclaw ever see a purpose for kits? Everyone had always thought that he hated them, up until now.

Shadehawk pulled his lip into a snarl. He bared his fangs at Shadeclaw. He was a clan mate would he really hurt him. His tail twitched back and forth as he let out a long high pitched hiss. He was more than positive he would wake the entire clan up if he started a fight right then and there. Shadehawk let out a snarl before unsheathing his claws. He didn't move. Instead his blue colored eyes burned into the thunderclan warriors. What would he do? What wouldn't he do was more like it.
"If you ever found a she-cat you truely cared about, not that a cat like you could, you would do anything to protect them from harm. Again not that you would do that, I care deeply for Hazelbrook and will do anything to make sure she stays out of harms way, even if it means personally removing you from the area....." Shadehawk mewed in a threatening tone. The dark colored tom narrowed his eyes at Shadeclaw. He didn't like this tom. H e wasn't sure why he just didn't.
"You stay away from Hazelbrook and myself and we will stay away from you." He started to speak again. The dark brown tom stood up tall and got nose to nose with the dark tom. He only wanted kits to repopulate the clan and spread his kin. At least Shadehawk wanted them for a good reason. To start a family with someone he cared about."Just stay away from my mate Shadeclaw, or i will act out on it..."

Shadeclaw noticed Shadehawk unsheath his claws, but to his surprise, he didn't move. Instead, the equally large tom simply stood there, hissing at him. Meanwhile, Hazelbrook watched in shock as Shadehawk defended her so fiercely. Did he trully care that much for her that he would do anything to protect her? She would've blushed if the situation wasn't so tense.
Shadeclaw hissed at Shadehawk, unsheathing his own claws. But it was obvious that Shadehawk would've won in a fight against him any day, and he knew this. About to stand down, he figured that he would have to try again with Hazelbrook another day, until Shadehawk finished his last sentence. Both Shadeclaw and Hazelbrook's eyes widened in shock and surprise.
Shadeclaw suddenly looked uncertain, as he glanced between Hazelbrook and Shadehawk. The brown tom really did look like he would protect Hazelbrook against all odds, even against his own Clan mate. Realizing that he didn't stand a chance, he snarled at Shadehawk one last time before whisking around and stalking off toward the warriors' den. Now left in silence, Hazelbrook stared down at her paws with a puzzled and shocked expression on her face. But there was also something else, but you couldn't identify clearly.
Then, she suddenly stood up and padded around Shadehawk, standing in front of him. Her eyes locked with his, and she said nothing for a long time. Hazelbrook wasn't even sure if she heard him right, but based on the surprised expression on Shadeclaw's face from earlier, she knew that he must've heard it as well. "W-what... what did you say, just now, Shadehawk?" she asked him, her voice barely a whisper.

Shadehawk watched the tom go and he stomped his paw on the ground with a triumphant look in his eyes. He let out a sigh of relief knowing that he had won this battle for the time being but something about this tom made him wonder if he would truly give up. What did just come out of his mouth? He mumbled a few words to himself before snorting. The dark colored tom finally calmed down. It was over for the time being thank goodness.
His pale eyes looked at Hazelbrook. Part of him wanted to say that he had just blurted that out in defense. That wasn't the truth however. Not one bit. He had to tell her the truth at least by what he felt. Whether or not she accepted him after that would be up to her. He took a deep breath and sat down wrapping his tail around his paws. His eyes burned into hers before looking at the ground then back up at her. Where would he begin?
"The best place to start would be when I first layed eyes on you when you were an apprentice. You were the most beautiful apprentice I had ever seen, but that's what all the toms felt and I couldn't tell you. Not with all the toms saying what they were saying. You and I we really didn't ackowledge each other until we became warriors. Even then you were stunning and proud. I couldn't help but look at you, look you in the eyes." He mewed. He took a deep breath in occasionally shifting his weight on his paws. He knew what he was say next. So he parted his jaws and started to speak again.
"You asked me to go on patrol with you, to go hunting, I was estatic. I would finally be able to go hunting with the most like warrior in all of the forest. It was hard for me however, because I am a very solitary tom. I don't enjoy the company of others. Well I do you of course. Yesterday Hunting was the best, minus the Hawk. I am so glad I was able to save you because in all honesty Hazelbrook I would have much liked the hawk to take my life if it meant saving yours." He mewed. He looked the she-cat in the eyes pausing. Even the way she was, she was still beautiful. It was nice.
"I know I received just wounds and you felt terrible about it but I ask you not too. I did this for you, you are also my clan mate and it is part of the code, but I did such a stupid thing risk getting killed because I've cared about you for awhile Hazelbrook, and when you kept me company in my nest last night, it sealed the deal for me, It made me feel so nice knowing that I had someone there. Your warmth made me feel so good. What I said to Shadclaw, I shouldn't have, but what I mean to ask....and the point of this speech....Will you be my mate Hazelbrook?"

Hazelbrook waited patiently for an answer. When Shadehawk began with compliments, she was surprised, and blushed. She wasn't stunning, she was just friendly, that's all. Though she couldn't help but blush, curling and uncurling her fluffy tail around her paws in anticipation.
She had been staring at her paws in embarrassment for the entire time, until Shadehawk mentioned the hawk incident from the day before. Would he really had given his life for her? The thought of being the cause of Shadehawk's death made her wince inwardly, but his sincerity was so surprising and also pleasant, that she looked up at him with wide eyes that were filled with shock and warmth as he went on.
On the inside, Hazelbrook shared Shadehawk's thoughts about when they'd shared nests together. It felt so comforting to have someone who cared about her, to know that someone trully cared about her. She knew that her Clan mates also cared about her, and appreciated her friendliness, but they were only friends. Nothing more. When she was with Shadehawk, it was much more different.
It was even different from when she had spent time with Stonebrook when she was young. Hazelbrook had never planned on replacing him, which she would never do such a thing, but having Shadehawk made her feel like she didn't need family to make her feel better when she was upset.
When Shadehawk finished, her jaw almost dropped. Her fur began to bristle, but not in a hostile way. Instead, it bristled in an overjoyed, delightfully surprised kind of way. She said nothing for a moment, and simply sat there, wondering what to say. But she knew that there was only one thing left to say. Suddenly, she stood to her paws and rushed toward Shadehawk. She pressed her muzzle against his neck, (since she was barely tall enough to reach his cheek) and a purr rumbled from the depths of her throat. "Yes!" she squeaked, her voice high-pitched from joy. His fur felt warm against her muzzle, and she smiled.

Shadehawk was prepared for an honest no. He closed his eyes tight and waited to here it. Instead felt her nuzzle into his neck and let escape a warm purr. She had said yes? He wanted to run out of the area where he was and let the entire clan know. He wanted to brag about it to everyone he saw. His heart began to race and suddenly it was like he was on cloud 9. He didn't move however, instead he tried to keep calm trying very hard to calm his excitement. He too let out a warm purr. "Thank you Hazelbrook, It means a lot to me that you would choose me to be your mate out of all the toms in Thunderclan..."
Shadehawk had a little bit more time than Hazelbrook to find a mate since he was a little bit older but nothing just clicked with him. He couldn't quite put his paw on it, but something about her clicked with him since day one. Perhaps because they were total opposites. He was more bitter and she was more friendly. He was only friendly towards her. Perhaps they would learn from each other. Shadehawk simply pushed the thoughts aside but for some reason they came back, well different thoughts that is."I will always protect you Hazelbrook, from everything and everyone in this forest. I want you to know that. I will never let anything hurt you I promise. I promise I will try my hardest to make sure you are always sleep with or without me around. I promise I will do my best to make you happy Hazelbrook, I promise..."

Hazelbrook felt butterflies flutter in her stomache as Shadehawk also let out a comforting purr. She rubbed her cheek on his neck, as if answering for him. She wouldn't have chosen any other tom, because most of the others only gawked at her, greeting her only with compliments and smiles. Sure, she appreciated them, but she didn't want to live her life with someone who only wanted her for her looks.
With Shadehawk, however, it was different. Something about him just drew her toward him. Maybe he wasn't the most liked cat in the Clan, but he was the most liked cat to her. He was so kind to her, and the fact that he didn't mind he was different from the rest was admirable. Of course, he wasn't different in a bad way, but instead, in an interesting way.
When he began to ramble on about protecting her and making so many promises, she let out a mrrow of amusement and stretched her neck so she could lick his cheek affectionately. "Shadehawk, you don't have to do all of those things to make me happy," she told him, her hazel-colored eyes shining fondly. . "You make me happy just as you are now." Hazelbrook felt like the happiest she-cat in the forest.
Finally, she had someone to trully care about, and someone to care about her in return. Maybe the pairing wasn't expected, but what difference did it make? As long as Hazelbrook was happy, and so was Shadehawk, she wouldn't mind what others said about them.

Shadehawk nodded taking in her words. He didn't respond he just let his mind soak things in. What was the next step for these two? He looked to the left then to the right. They certainly couldn't go back to the den since that's where Shadeclaw went. The last thing he wanted to do was to disturb prince charming while he was sleeping. He looked at his wounds and knew it would be mouse brained to go on a patrol today. Chances were his leader wouldn't be too impressed with him if he pushed himself more than what was required of him. Today would be an in camp day for him. He wasn't sure if he was okay with that or not. He thought for a moment. there truly was nothing else to do. They could bask in the sun, and talk. He liked talking to Hazelbrook. They had so much to talk about it seemed.
"I don't think it would wise for me to go out on a patrol today. Not until these have had time to heal. So, that being said It's going to be an in camp day for me today. I wouldn't mind just basking in the green-leaf sun enjoying your company. That is if you don't mind I could probably pull off a walk, I just shouldn't over work myself." The dark tom mewed. He did realize that he would get extremely warm but he didn't mind. He loved the warmth. Green-leaf was his favorite season. He couldn't help but let out a purr. For some reason, Shadehawk felt like he would have a good future ahead of him.
