Dark brown eyes scanned the territory. Nothing. Nothing out of the ordinary just yet. His whiskers twitched and he continued on moving towards Shadowclan's side. He didn't join patrols in large groups. He often did them by himself or in his free time. It's not that he didn't like his clan mates, we was considered the don't cross me type. Those that didn't know him would avoid his cold looking gaze and his emotionless visage. The brown tom looked to the left, then to the right. THe tip of his tail twitched and he continued on.
The large tom looked over Shadowclan's boarder. He started to get a bad feeling in his gut. He moved closer just inches from the boarder. He knew if he crossed it would be the end of the world. He lined his pawsteps up with the scented boarder and looked around the musty scented pine forest. He couldn't scent any Shadowclan warriors around. Nor did it seem like that had been around in awhile. It was odd in a sense.
"Nothing is happening anywhere or so it seems..." He mumbled to himself. He didn't like quiet. He didn't like not seeing anyone around. Lately even his own clan mates have been hardly around. He stiffeld a sigh. The dark tom looked intimadating but that was mostly just in act. An act to impress, mostly himself, and mostly his past. Occasionally it was to impress those a rank higher than himself but not all the time."The forest seems so unalive...so quiet...so peaceful.."

Hazelbrook bounded through the forest, a gentle breeze ruffling her fur as she opened her jaws to breathe in any prey-scent. She had originally left camp in search of prey, but now her mind was beginning to wander off toward Sunningrocks. She knew it was RiverClan territory, but her curiosity was winning her over once again. She couldn't help but think of Stonebrook, and grief clutched at her heart like ice-cold claws. This wasn't an unfamiliar feeling.
Sighing, she decided not to slack off, and sniffed the air once again. Though it wasn't prey-scent that greeted her, but cat-scent. She bristled for a heartbeat, until she realized it was ThunderClan scent. Relaxing, she traced the scent until she was a couple of fox-lengths from the Thunderpath. "Shadehawk? Is that you?" she meowed, her gentle voice muffled as she covered her mouth with her tail. The rank stench of monsters filled into her nostrils, and she wrinkled her nose in disgust.

Shadehawk turned around. He greeted the she-cat with the twitch of his long silver whiskers. This she-cat was brave enough to talk to him? What a pleasent surprise. The brown tom's eyes brightened up and he let his muscles relax to an extent. He wanted to be prepared to leap if anything were to happen. Yes it was him, who else would it be? A frog? he let a smile creep upon his maw in response to his own thoughts. Wasn't he a clever one.
"Yes It's me Hazelbrook." Shadehawk was able to make the call about it being her because of the tone of voice that called. It was filled with sincerity and kindness. Not many cats had that tone in Thunderclan. Not to mention the ones that did have the kindness only one would really talk to him her."What brings you so close to Shadowclan's boarders? Not that I should ask since I am here as well...."

Hazelbrook pushed Stonebrook out of her thoughts and smiled in amusement at Shadehawk's cool response. "Well, I was out hunting, and I came across your scent," she meowed, her voice light and filled with warmth. Though she couldn't help but cover her nose with her tail again, due to the scent of the Thunderpath.
"Actually, Shadehawk, would you mind if I asked you to hunt with me?" she asked, completely casual with the idea of hunting with one of the most unapproachable tom in the Clan. Most would think she was brave for actually asking Shadehawk something like that, but Hazelbrook was comfortable with every one of her Clan mates, even the brutes like Shadehawk. She didn't mind how solitare he was, and she even thought it was quite admirable.

Shadehawk wriggled his nose when the she-cat asked him if he wanted to hunt. Did she know who this tom was? Why wasn't she scared to approach him like every other cat in the forest. He swung his head to the left then to the right. No one had seen this act of kindness. No one would see what the tom would say in response either. No one would see his true colors. Never. Perhaps that's why he was unaproachable because no one took the chance to really get to know him. Me mumbled a few words to himself before flicking his tail to let the she-cat know to lead the way. In all truth he enjoyed her presence.
Hazelbrook was always a she-cat of beauty. She was liked by almost every cat in the forest and that was because of her loving nature. It almost seemed like she didn't hate anyone. This could certainly be positive but it could be a flaw. What if someone betrayed her. The tom didn't want to think about that. Instead he just gave a low purr. Not a long one but a short quick one. "Where would you like to hunt Hazelbrook? I will leave that choice to you." The tom couldn't help but look at her real quick. What a beauty she was.

Hazelbrook tilted her head to the side in slight curiosity when Shadehawk took a bit longer to respond, but she brightened again when he agreed to hunt with her. But truthfully, she was surprised that he had asked her where to hunt. She's expected him to decide where to hunt, and she would follow him happily. Not that she didn't want to lead the way, but it was just that she considered his answer as interesting.
"Well... how about Tallpines? Maybe we could... er, Shadehawk," she trailed off when the large tom began to stare at her in a funny way, and she twitched her whiskers in slight embarrassment. "Is something wrong?" Hazelbrook imagined a leaf on her pelt or a smudge of dirt on her face, and she felt her ears grow warm. As Shadehawk stared at her, however, she returned his fixed gaze, and found herself falling into what seemed as though a vast forest of rich-brown colors.

[/blockquote] Shadehawk didn't say anything in response. Instead he continued to stare. There was nothing wrong with the she-cat. At least not in his eyes. He just twitched his whiskers when she asked the question. On no! Had he been starting? That was a bit embaressing. He shook the thoughts from his head and followed her to tall pines where they would be hunting. This would be an interesting adventure yet.
"No there is nothing wrong Hazelbrook. Your pelt isn't dirty and no cat is about to pounce on you out of no where. I was simply looking. I don't see cats from my clan often. They hide from me, or were you not aware? You and our leader are the only ones who speak to me." He mewed. His whiskers twitched in amusement. He parted his jaws to take in the scents of the forest . Prey was all over. He lowered himself into a crouch and paced forward. He soon vanished into a thicket of leaves. Moments later he returned with a mouse clamped firmly in is jaws. He let out a triumphant purr as he dropped it on the ground at the she-cats paws."Here, you can have it. We aren't on a hunting patrol it's okay."

Hazelbrook was surprised and confused by Shadehawk's response. She had never said anything about her pelt being dirty. The slightest frown appeared on her face, however, when he stated that their Clan mates hided from him like it was a fact. "You're saying that as if it's true," she argued lightly, touching his shoulder with her tail-tip sympathetically. It was somewhat true, though. Their Clan mates often avoided Shadehawk, which Hazelbrook found disrespectful.
Seeing the mouse Shadehawk dropped at her paws, she resisted the temptating scents of freshly-killed prey and instead shook her head. "I'm sorry, Shadehawk. That was a wonderful catch, but I can't accept it; I haven't hunted for the Clan yet," she mewled politely, her hazel-colored eyes shining in gratitiude. Hazelbrook was very loyal to her Clan, and it took her a very long time to forgive herself for breaking the tiniest rule, like feeding yourself before feeding the Clan.

[/blockquote] Shadehawk was astonished. He had no idea that she wouldn't want the prey he caught. Well he could easily catch another right? He parted his jaws. Nothing. He let out a very soft growl of annoyance. Prey was limited. Was the mouse he caught simply hungry and looking for food? Why was it that there was hardly anything else around He heard a call of a bird and he's ears twitched at the sound. Perhaps they would only be able to tree hunt today. The she-cat not wanting to take anything because she hadn't hunted for the clan yet was acceptable for the most part. He did however, seem offended when she didn't take it. The large tom simply twitched his whiskers in response and nodded.
"We better get hunting then Hazelbrook, because this I caught for you. You are part of the clan and therefore I hunted for the clan before eating myself. So once you have done your share, I would like you to have this." It was unusal for the tom to be this open and this kind to a she-cat or a clan mate. She was so kind fo everyone so he had to be kind back. It was hard for him however, since he had to dig deep down. He didn't want to be mean to her and scare her off like he did everyone else.

Hazelbrook flattened her ears at the soft growl that sounded from Shadehawk's throat, and she immediately regret not accepting his unusually kind offer. She knew that he was trying to be polite to her, but she didn't want to act like a mouse-brain by not following the Clan rules. She hesitated for a brief moment, wondering how Shadehawk would react to what she was about to do, before padding up to him and brushing her soft tail against his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Shadehawk. It was very nice of you to catch that for me, and I promise that I'll accept it after I catch something myself," she meowed quietly, her eyes clouded with hurt. Hazelbrook couldn't help being so sensitive, so it wasn't any wonder why she felt rude after a generous offer from a solitary tom like Shadehawk. Realizing that to make it up to Shadehawk, she would have to catch some prey and then eat the mouse he caught her. Maybe we could even share it! she thought in delight. Prey was becomming strangely scarce, and Hazelbrook didn't mind if she went to sleep with a hungry belly; as lon as her Clan mates had their share.

[/blockquote] Shadehawk pulled his ears back. He could feel his cheeks becoming warm. He parted his jaws to speak but didn't say anything. No cat had ever touched him in such a sincere way. His mind was confused as to what to say or do. What was going on in this she-cats mind? Did she like him? was she trying to be polite? Shadehawk muttered a few words to himself trying to gather his own thoughts. Nothing seemd to be making sense. So he decided not to second guess himself it would be better this way.
He watched the she-cats eyes get cloudy and even a mousebrain could tell she was upset. He suddenly felt terrible. The dark colored tom stepped forward. His next action would shock even Starclan's warriors. He walked over to the she-cat and let his brown tail touch her shoulder ever so gently. Every warrior and apprentice in the forest knew he wasn't a gentle tom. He muttered a few more words to himself before speaking.
"No it's okay I understand. Please don't be upset hazelbrook. You aren't doing anything wrong I didn't mean to sound angry. I promise. Lets both hunt for the clan. Together. Then you can eat the prey I caught for you."

Hazelbrook had expected Shadehawk to be only annoyed by her sincere apology, but instead he surprised her when he returned her gesture by touching her own shoulder with his tail-tip. A shiver ran down her spine. Though she brightened when the tom relaxed a bit, and so she did too. "I... it's alright. I knew you didn't mean it, and I'd be more than happy if we were to hunt now," she purred, her smile warm as she craned her neck backwards so she could look the taller tom in the eye.
Feeling like they should get going, Hazelbrook moved onwards, her pelt slightly burshing Shadehawk's as she walked past him. Casting a glance over her shoulder, she gave him an amused grin and flicked her tail as a gesture for him to come with her. She was careful not to say anything about her leading the way, since truthfully, she wanted Shadehawk to lead. Hazelbrook felt safer when someone was telling her what to do. Slowing her pace so he could catch up with her, Hazelbrook perked her ears and glanced around in search of prey.

Shadehawk quickly followed. The tom was somewhat eager now. He wasn't sure why. The dark tom followed intently behind Hazelbrook. He would have lead the way but respecting the she-cat he didn't take charge. It seemed almost impolite to do so. He sent her an amusing grin. He was actually having a good time. Shadehawk couldn't help but let out a purr as he ran ahead. He was enjoying himself. He flicked his tail letting her know to follow quickly.
"Hey you need to catch up!" He joked. His fur was bristling with excitement. He had never been so care free in his life. Shadehawk felt comfortable around Hazelbrook which was different. He felt like an apprentice again and he knew this was a good thing."Hazelbrook!" He called again. He stopped running waiting patiently for her to catch up.

Hazelbrook squeaked in surprise when Shadehawk ran past her, and she let out a mrrow of laughter before running after the large tom. "Oh, give me a break, Mr.Show-off!" she teased, as she slowed her pace once she neared Shadehawk. They had ran into a sunlit clearing, and as she caught her breath, Hazelbrook closed her eyes and let the warm sunlight seep into her fur. Her white, calico pelt sparkled beautifully and she flicked her tail back and forth in content for a moment.
A blood-curling screech suddenly filled the air. Hazelbrook's fur instantly shot up straight and her eyes opened wide in fear. The screech came again. A shadow fell above the two warriors for a heartbeat, and the deafening sound of heavy flapping wings filled her ears. A hawk! Terrorfied, Hazelbrook made a dash for it, her tail in between her legs. Though she couldn't leave Shadehawk by himself, and she couldn't resist looking over her shoulder to see if he was following her. Though as she did so, she tripped on a small ditch and tumbled to the ground. Hazelbrook shrieked and felt a pain sear through her paw when she realized that she had twisted it.
Unable to run, however, Hazelbrook was left to crouch out in the open with her ears pinned against her head. "Run!" she yelled out bravely, eyes shut in fear as she braced herself for the sharp piercing of the hawk's talons. It was a mouse-brained thing to do, telling a stronger, more experienced warrior to run from a hawk, but she didn't want Shadehawk to get injured in the process, and instead, she'd rather die for him. The sound of flapping wings grew closer, and with each moment that passed by Hazelbrook's heart pounded faster against her chest.

The dark tom basked in the sunlight enjoying the warmth himself. It would be awhile yet before the clan would see another nice day such as this one. The dark tom purred but his happiness was soon interruppted. His ears caught a flapping of wings in the distance. The sound of the wings against the air was loud and entailed that it was a large bird. The tom looked up and saw talons. Eyes widened with fear he knew exactly what it was, it was a hawk, and hawks were not something to mess with.
Shadehawk watched as Hazelbrook bolted off in a panic. It would have been safer for her to hide in the grass. When Hazelbrook bolted the bird chased after her at high speeds. It wasn't long before Shadehawk was right after her. His paws beat against the ground at rapid speeds. He couldn't believe how fast he was going. He was chasing after his clan mate to make sure she was safe. That was different. However not shortly after he was starting to catch up he skidded to a halt. Hazelbrook had fallen into a ditch. The large bird swooped down trying to stab her with it's talons.
Hazelbrook told the tom to run. He wanted to run away, but that would be the wrong thing to do. Instead the mouse brained tom jumped down standing over the she-cat protectively. The fur on his body began to rise in a threatening way. His ears were pulled back and he let our a snarl followed by a hiss. He bore his fangs at the brid trying to scare it off. He swatted at it a few times only to miss. The hawk swooped down and jabbed Shadehawk with it's strong claws. Shadehawk cried out in agony but he couldn't let Hazelbrook get hurt.
Blood began to swell in his wounds. He had gotten hurt. The injury was deep to. Shadehawk bunched up his hindlegs and jumped. His claws hooked in the birds wing. He landed on the ground and once again the hawk came swooping down getting Shadehawk on the muzzle. The large tom yelped. What was he doing? Taking on a hawk by himself. He shook the blood from his eyes. The hawk swooped once more. Shadehawk grabbed a hold of it with both front paws digging his claws into the brown birds flesh. It flapped it's wings threatingly before slashing at Shadehawk once more. The tom stood over the she-cat protectively as the bird flew off.
