Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
Hazelbrook watched in horror and shock as Shadehawk raced toward her, and she wanted to scream at him for following her anyway. Why would he come back for her? No, he was only following his loyalty to his Clan by making sure a fellow Clan mate didn't get hurt. But for a heartbeat, Hazelbrook felt relieved that he had came back. Though the feeling left her body as quickly as it had came, and she was back to her frightened state.
"No!" she yowled when Shadehawk started to swipe his paws at the hawk. It had swooped down and slashed its talons at him, and she flinched as he yelped in agony. How could she had let this happen? This was all her fault! If only she hadn't met him by the Thunderpath... oh why, StarClan? She was half-lost in her own grief-stricken thoughts, and half-aware of what was happening around her.
Hazelbrook then realized that Shadehawk was standing over her protectively, and she could smell the scent of blood coming from him. This made her even more guilty and terrorfied. She suddenly felt like an apprentice all over again, during that dreadful day when her Father, Stonebrook, had died drowning in the over-flooded river. Tears swelled in her wide eyes, and her breathing came in quick, shaky breaths.
Confused and frightened, Hazelbrook didn't know what else to do than to bury herself into Shadehawk's fur. Her smaller body fit snuggly in between his tall legs and she shut her eyes tightly. "S-s-shadehawk, I'm t-terribly sorry, that should've b-b-been me! You're h-hurt, oh, StarClan... this is all m-my fault!" she wailed into his fur, her body trembling. Stonebrook's voice suddenly appeared faintly in his mind. It was not your time to join me, Stonebrook's voice was achingly familiar, and Hazelbrook wished she could've actually died so she could've reuinted with her father. But not when Shadehawk was injured like this; she would never forgive herself, and neither would Shadehawk. Her fur still bristling, Hazelbrook didn't move away from Shadehawk.

Shadehawk panted. He felt Hazelbrook snuggle close to him. He pulled his ears back and looked down at the she-cat. She was in shock. Yes he was injured but he got injured on his own choice. He got injured protecting a clan mate. The black tom touched her shoulder with his tail to let her know everything would be okay. Shadehawk was waiting patiently for the she-cat to move but she didn't. He could still feel the tense muscles in her body. He pressed against the she-cat in a comforting matter and let out a soft purr. "I'm still here, it's just a couple of scratches. They will heal in no time."
amy mouse brained fool could see they were deep and if they weren't treated soon they would become infected. He winced as he moved his right shoulder to get more comfortable. He stepped aside. He knew Hazelbrook was still scared but he didn't go far. He layed down next to her going down to her level.
"At least I will have a story to tell, and some neat scars as proof. I can't wait to tell kits what happened to me when I'm an elder. I'll have an excuse to exaggerate and claim it was as big as Thunderpath itself!" He mewed trying to lighten the mood. Shadehawk got used to the she-cats prescence so going deep down, very very deep down into the deepest part of his heart he was able to act like himself."I will also be able to tell them how I saved the most prized possession of Thunderclan." He mewed.

Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
Hazelbrook let out a frightened squeak when Shadehawk shuffled away from her, but as soon as he lay down so did she, pressing into his comforting fur. Though it was matted with drying blood, she didn't care. It gave her a sense of safety, and almost made her believe that it was Stonebrook soothing her, and not Shadehawk. "But.. y-you got h-hurt because of m-me..." she sniffled when he rambled on about telling the Clans' future kits about the hawk. Hazelbrook felt the guilt spread and linger in her mind and body. She felt so useless.
Hazelbrook stopped sniffling and looked up at Shadehawk in surprise. She was ThunderClan's most prized possesion? Was he just teasing her? But from the sound of his voice, and even to hear such a solitary tom like him say that to her, she knew he wasn't joking. A thousand feelings and thoughts flooded into her mind: confusion, shock, warmth, happiness, and even another feeling that she couldn't describe, but instead was the best of them all. "Don't say that... I almost g-got you killed..." she stammered sheepishly, her ears growing hot and her face turning red as she started to blush. Her eyes twinkled with mixed feelings as she looked away, not daring to meet Shadehawk's eyes after he said something so sincere, and kind to her.

Shadehawk saw the she-cat turn away. Did he say something wrong? This was what he got for being honest? He muttered a few words to himself. She didn't almost get him killed. It was HIS own choice to chase after her. Shadehawk thought Hazelbrook was kind to everyone why would he let such a kind soul go to waste? He liked Hazelbrook. A lot. He looked in the opposite direction. Did he make the wrong choice saying what he did? "You didn't almost get me killed. It's not like you knew the hawk was going to be there. You also told me to run to protect myself. You tried not to get me killed. I made the choice to put myself in danger to save my clan mate. It's the code, butI didn't do it just for the code." He mewed. He was still looking in the other direction. He had personal reasons. His eyes scanned the forest and the sky. He would have a fun time explaining to the medicine cat why he had these wounds. He let out a sight and shook his head. I'm sorry Hazelbrook, I shouldn't have shared what was on my mind.

Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
Hazelbrook listened in silence as Shadehawk explained himself, and while listening to his familiar, deep voice, she relaxed a bit. When he paused for a moment, her embarrassment had left, and instead was replaced with confusion and joy as she finally looked back up at him. "You didn't do it for the code?" she repeated quietly, her hazel-colored eyes shining with warmth. If he didn't do it for the code... what did he do it for?
Hazelbrook frowned at Shadehawk's last words. Why couldn't he share what was on his mind with her? Was he uncomfortable with her, or was it because he didn't want her to know? "Shadehawk... you can talk to me about anything, anytime. Because... I care about what you think," she meowed, her voice sincere, each word came out smoothly, like honey. Gingerly, she licked his shoulder fondly, and let an inaudible purr escape her throat. Somehow, during the short time she had spent with Shadehawk, she had grown a bond with him. One that she had never experienced before with her other Clan mates, even other toms. Now, Hazelbrook could almost say that if Shadehawk left her... it would be like losing Stonebrook all over again.

Shadehawk felt her tongue rasp over his shoulder. It was affectionate. He had never had someone like him for him and that honestly made him feel better about himself. When she purred it was music to his ears. She liked him. He wasn't hated in his clan. He was well respected he was just the 'don't double cross me' or 'if you lie to me I will know' type. It wasn't a bad thing but it wasn't always a good thing. He had one or two friends in the clan and he was always trying to impress Hawkstar in hopes that he my be deputy one day.
"No I didn't do it for the code Hazelbrook. If I had done it for the code I would have thought of a less dangerous way to save you. I did it because I didn't want to see you get hurt and I have grown rather fond of your company and would enjoy it in the future." His wording was awkward but it all meant the same thing. He was never forced to share feeligns before and this was the first time. He cared for Hazelbrook, he just struggled to announce it.
"I realize I can tell you anything Hazelbrook, and I will, you can do the same too I want you to know that." He mewed. He returned the gesture by touching his nose to her flank and letting out a gentle purr for the first time as he did so.

Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
Hazelbrook's breath caught in her throat. Shadehawk had risked his life for her. Not for the code. Though a part of her knew that he had done it for her all along, that she could trust him, and she always would. Hazelbrook had never felt this way about anyone before, not even her own Father or Mother. This was something different, something new. She had strong bonds with every one of her Clan mates, but with Shadehawk, it was just something more. Something much, much more valuable.
"Thank you, Shadehawk," she breathed, her voice almost inaudible as she looked into his dark-colored eyes for a moment, before resting her head gently on his un-injured shoulder. She knew that the both of them weren't going to admit anything else that day, or at least, anything else that could've possibly meant more than what she had already heard from Shadehawk. Her purr vibrated through her entire body, and she closed her eyes gently in content. Hazelbrook knew that had to return to camp, but she just wanted that moment to last.

Shadehawk couldn't help but let his eyes brighten. He had been resting for a moment and stood up. He let out a large hiss but still managed."We should get back to Camp Hazelbrook. I don't want Hawkstar to worry." He bit back a nervous gulp of air. What would the clan say when they say them walk in together? It didn't really matter in his eyes. He simply shrugged. It didn't matter at all. He helped the she-cat to her paws with a gentle nudge."You had a long day as well, it wouldn't hurt to have you get some proper rest. I can your nest near mine if you want, I mean i'm in the corner and it's warm...and..." He was speaking gibberish. Instead he started walking towards camp with his tail intwined with hers.

Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
Hazelbrook almost opened her mouth to protest when Shadehawk moved away from her, but she realized too that they couldn't sit out in the open forever, especially if that hawk could've came back. She shuddered. She didn't want to think about that dreadful hawk. Sighing, she smiled warmly as the brisk tom helped her to her paws, and she winced in pain, forgetting that her paw was twisted.
Leaning on Shadehawk's uninjured shoulder for support, Hazelbrook listened as he rambled on and on about returning to camp and getting rest. Any other cat would've became annoyed by how fast he was speaking, or how sometimes he stumbled on a word, but Hazelbrook didn't mind. She thought it was amusing, and it didn't bother her at all. Another shiver went down her spine when his tail twined with hers, and she started to blush again. "I'd love that, Shadehawk. I don't mind if your nest is in the corner," she purred fondly, imagining for a brief moment being curled up by Shadehawk's side, sharing a nest. The idea made a delighted purr rumble from her throat.
But then she remembered how he said his nest was in the corner, and she frowned. "And it shouldn't be in the corner, too!" she added quickly, her voice sharpening to her surprise. She had never spoken with such a strong voice before, and it frightened her a bit. Softening her voice, she took a breath and went on, "Don't think that no one enjoys your company, Shadehawk. Because, I do." Hazelbrook shyly rubbed her cheek against his neck for a brief moment, breathing in his assuring, familiar scent.

Shadehawk simply frowned. He didn't have his nest in the corner because he felt like an outcast to the clan. Like he he had mentioned before he was a formitable warrior. He was just bitter and too serious about the daily clan life."The corner is warmest." He mewed. It didn't matter on what the season was, Shadehawk liked to be warm. It's just how he was. He mumbled a few words to himself when the she-cat brushed her cheek against his he couldn't help but let a low rumble vibrate in the back of his throat as he purred.
Shadehawk didn't really like most in his clan. It's just how it was. He did however, respect them. each cat diserved respect and that's just how it was. However, with Hazelbrook it certainly wasn't respect. He had always thought the she-cat was pretty. After today he knew that he cared about her. It was just difficult for him to express."It makes me happy knowing that you want my company. At least someone in this clan can tolerate my bitter sense of humor and personality." he mewed. His whiskers twitched with amusement at his own comment.

Hazelbrook You've been gone for so long, I'm running out of time
• • • Hazelbrook felt troubled by Shadehawk's brisk comment about his nest being warmer in the corner, and decided not to point out that it was green-leaf. Instead, she just sighed and waited to see if he had anything else to say. She brightened at the sound of his purr, and she inwardly reminded herself that he didn't mean to sound so solitary.
"Oh, come on, no one in our Clan dislikes you. It's just.. well, they're just not used to cats who stand out. But not in a bad way, of course," she explained gently, trying to comfort Shadehawk. "If it makes any difference, I like how you stand out." Hazelbrook smiled up at Shadehawk and purred, matching the much larger tom step for step as they grew closer to camp.

Shadehawk's eyes lit up. He couldn't help but let out a purr. She liked how he stood up. He looked around. Most cats thought he was more willy and to proud of a warrior. Most thought he clearly had shadowclan roots in his blood. Perhaps he did way way back but he knew that both his mother and father were pure Thunderclan. "I like how you stand out as well Hazelbrook. It seems like you don't have an angry bone in your body. You're so kind to everyone. You're not selfish. Every cat I know dislikes some cat in the forest, but it seems like all of the clans enjoy your company. The only cats that enjoy mine are you and cats from Shadowclan."
It was true. everytime he went to a gathering, Shadowclan cats were always talking to him. He simply shrugged it off. So his personality was a bit off. He just wanted to be the best warrior he could be. After all he had goals. He wanted to be a deputy one day. By working hard for the clan he figured he would receive his first apprentice and that would be the first step. He let a small purr escape once more thinking about his future both with the clan and with Hazelbrook.

ooc;; Hazel's table is being a butt, so I'll just make a plain one.
Hazelbrook was taken aback by Shadehawk's unusally kind response, and her eyes shined brighter. A purr of delight escaped her throat, and her fur grew warm all over. "Well, actually, you're the only one who I feel truthfully close to," she confessed quietly, lowering her gaze to her paws in embarrassment. Ever since Stonebrook died, she almost added, bittersweet memories of her father quickly flashing through her mind.
Hazelbrook shook the memories away. She didn't want Shadehawk to think that he was only a replacement of her father, and that she cared for him because of it. She cared for Shadehawk because he suddenly meant so much to her. If she were to lose him, it might even be worse than losing Stonebrook.
Sighing, the purr in Hazelbrook's throat lingered, and for a moment she gazed around the forest around them. As she admired the tall, richly-colored trees, she could almost completely forget about her twisted paw as she limped along beside Shadehawk. Swirls of green, light green and other shades of green covered the leafy canopy above them; the brown colors of the tree trunks contrasting beautifully. Hazelbrook's eyes shone with wonder.

"I am glad you are comfortable around me Hazelbrook, but please don't force yourself to enjoy my company. On days that I bore you please feel free to let me know and I will change as quick as I can." The dark gray tom mewed. He stretched letting what sun fell onto his coat warm him. He enjoyed it a bunch. He let out a purr and looked at the she-cat.
He saw the distant look in her eyes. What was she thinking about? The older tom new about her father was she thinking about him? He was arguing with himself about whether or not to interrupt her thoughts."He is proud of you Hazelbrook. I know it's hard. Your the first I've gotten close too since my best friend died in battle. Darkfrost. I miss him, but don't let that stop you from being the best you can. Your father was a good warrior and still is." The dark tom mewed.

Hazelbrook looked at Shadehawk in surprise. Did he really think that she didn't enjoy his company? And what surprised her even more, was that he was actually willing to change for her. She realized that Shadehawk must've been usingup quite the effort to say something so sincere to her, and it made her happy.
"You don't have to change, I like you the way you are," she smiled sincerely, her eyes shining fondly. Hazelbrook didn't want Shadehawk to be someone who he wasn't. She liked how different he was from everyone else, and how he always tried to be polite to other cats, despite the fact that he didn't seem to be the type to express themselves easily.
Hazelbrook was startled when Shadehawk suddenly brought up her father, and her eyes slightly widened as he roused her from her thoughts. How had he known that she was thinking about Stonebrook? Suddenly, an overwhelming amount of grief flooded over her heart, and she stopped walking. Hazelbrook buried her nose into Shadehawk's neck, and she shut her eyes tightly. "Shadehawk, I miss him so much," she whimpered, looking toward Shadehawk for comfort. She knew that Stonebrook died when she was only an apprentice, and that was a long time ago, but she still never stops thinking about him daily.
