Muse was dreaming. They grey tabby was running through the strange two-leg field that her and Fang had ventured into. Rain splashed around her, and dogs and two-legs were chasing her. She ran and ran but they were catching her. Suddenly she slipped and rolled over to stare into the eyes of the dog, who was about to kill her.
As if she had willed it, the dog's slavering jaws transformed into Fang's proud face immediately, as he nudged her to her feet and urged her forward away from the two-legs. With a sudden sigh, Muse shifted feeling a soft nest under her paws as she woke up. She inhaled a soft breath and smelt Fang then realized that is soft pelt was pressed against hers. With a soft purr she nestled closer to him, appreciating his warmth. As she closed her eyes again, she found her mind glowing about Fang. Why did she feel this way about this tom? More importantly, what was this feeling?

A flash of lightning brightened the night sky for a heartbeat, followed by a deafening boom of thunder shortly after. Fang was pelting down an alley, his wide eyes fixed on what looked like an opening at the end of it, glowing with a faint light. But however much he ran, the opening was always so far away, as if the alley would never end. He didn't dare to look over his shoulder.
"Going somewhere?" a voice hissed from behind him. Fang's blood turned to ice but he forced himself to go on. But he couldn't resist the urge to glance over his shoulder, and to his relief, no one was behind him. Suddenly, as he turned his head to look straight once more, he stumbled to a halt at the site of the cat he hoped he'd never see ever again. Jake stood before him, claws unsheathed and a dark expression on his face, along with a cruel smirk. The brown tabby raised a paw, amber eyes gleaming with pure hatred. "The name's Jake; don't forget it," he repeated the words that never failed to chill Fang to the bone, before bringing down his claws on his face.
But just as Fang let out a shriekf of terror, the scenery changed into a lush meadow, butterflies fluttering around him. One landed on his nose, and his recent fear began to ebb. A voice interrupted his thoughts, and a gray shape began to run toward him. "Fang!" Fang recognized Muse as she came near, and he was about to ask her what was going on, but she didn't let him speak; she purred loudly and pressed her cheek against his, her pale green eyes brimming with emotions that he had never noticed before - in Muse, or anyone.
Fang let Muse twine her tail with his, and surprisingly, was enjoying every moment of it. It was much more relaxing than being slaughtered by Jake - that was for sure. But he felt something else; something that made his paws tingle and his heart skip a beat. Now, he and Muse were walking side by side, with their flanks brushing, at a slow and peaceful pace. Muse looked at him, right into his eyes, and opened her jaws to say something, but her happy expression turned to one of horror and a high-pitched shriek escaped her throat.
A heavy weight crashed into him and there was Jake again, this time, pinning him down. Struggling to escape from his grasp, a flash of black caught Fang's attention and he realized with a jolt of fear that a snarling dog was crashing after Muse at a frightening pace. "No!" Fang cried out, eyes wide, when the dog dived for Muse. It landed on her back and forced her to the ground, her yowls of agony making him pin his ears to his skull. Fang's vision turned into a blurry red glow, his head throbbing and his body aching. Muse's screams faded, and only Jake's voice remained clear from anything else in the end. "The name's Jake; don't forget it."
Fang awoke with a start, feeling horrorfied from the nightmare but also happy from his walk with Muse. He glanced beside him to see that she was still sound asleep, and he forced himself to calm down. His breathing was quick and shallow, and his flanks were heaving much too quickly. The nightmare was all too vivid and fresh in his mind. The snapping jaws of the dog that chased Muse, the agony he felt when he saw it pin her to the ground, the growing terror of Jake hunting him down just like the dog had did to Muse. He had never had a dream like this before.

Muse was still awake when she heard Fang's breathing change rapidly. She lifted her head and turned it towards him. Her eyes widened as she took in his frazzled state, concern filling them.
"Fang? Are you okay?" she asked softly. She didn't really want to call attention to his state, but she was worried about him. She stared into his eyes, waiting for a response while her own mind raced.
She had noticed in her first day with Fang that he seemed to be afraid of something- or someone. Which made her wonder who he had to fear, and why he feared them. What had happened to this tom that she had grown to worry about int one day? Who was Fang really?
A yawn escaped Muse before she could stifle it. With a twitch of her ears, she shifted her body so that she was completely facing him. What had woke him up? Did he ever go to sleep? Did she think to much?

Fang's ear twitched at the sound of Muse's voice beside him, but it took him a moment longer to register her words. Hearing her brought back the wonderful memory of their walk, but the terrorfying experience with Jake as well. What would he say? Would he lie? No, he couldn't lie. I just need to find a loop-hole. By the time his heart-pace had slowed down, he took the time to think up of a way to answer her without lying. "I just need some air," he told her dryly, trying to avoid her gaze.
Without waiting for an answer, he quickly climbed out of the nest, not knowing where to go. His paws led him to a place not far from the clearing, but far enough so that Muse couldn't see him. He always thought in a quiet, secluded place, and he would feel uncomfortable if Muse was there. Not that he didn't like her company - which, he actually did - it was just that thinking was one of the things that he needs to be alone in order to do. Fang sighed, letting his muscles relax as he curled his short-furred tail around his paws. But now that he was alone; he didn't know what to think about.
Usually, thoughts would just roll into his mind like water lapping at the banks of a stream. Now; there was nothing. Only the memory of the dog's snarling jaw clamping down on Muse's throat - and Jake's voice. The thought of it alone sent a shiver down his spine, and he wondered why he felt so torn when he recalled the horrible slaughtering of Muse. He never even saw the event take place in his dream, but her agonized yowls made him feel pain as well. But why?
Fang thought that clearing his mind would help, but it only made it worse. Without anything to think about, he felt lost and utterly vulnurable to the world. He could't talk to Muse about his personal life, because that would be near suicide. If he told her, she could tell someone else, and that someone else could tell Jake, and well, Fang guessed what would happen next. No, I don't know whether to trust her or not... but why do I feel like I do? Fang had only known Muse for a day, and so far, he only knew her name and her age, as well as where she came from, which was little details as it was.
ooc;; just so 'ya know, I'm hinting for Muse to go and talk to him, so he could open himself emotionally to her.

Gently rolling her eyes, the grey tabby stood and stretched she then padded across the clearing and came to sit beside Fang. She looked up into the star's and mummered, "I like to think that someone in my family is watching out for me. Fang... I don't know what's going on...but please at least try to talk to me."
She felt abashed that she was so blunt with him, but one day of his moody secrets was all that she could take. Especially if they were to be traveling together. She needed to know that he could be trusted.
With wide eyes, she looked back at him and sighed, awaiting his response.

Fang twitched his ear in surprise when he heard Muse pad up from behind him, but he had no intentions of looking at her as she sat down beside him. He barely frowned at her words. She wanted to talk to him? There was nothing to tell her. There's everything to tell her, a voice pointed out in his mind. But how would she cope with them? With the fact that a murderous cat was chasing Fang and that she might possibly be injured in the process? He couldn't risk getting her hurt. It would be all his fault if she got injured, and at the thought, a vision of a blood-lusting dog baring its curved teeth flashed through his mind, making him flinch.
After a long moment of silence, Fang finally opened his jaws to speak - still avoiding Muse's gaze. "I don't know what to say. I could tell you about... certain things, and that alone might make you want to run away from here; far from where I am," he began slowly, his voice having a slight edge to it. "I could be risking your life right now if I were to tell you who I really am," Fang's voice softened into a quiet murmur, and for once, he turned his head and looked Muse in the eye.
Their pale green glowing light made him relax a bit, but he still couldn't help noticing the tensity crackling in the air, making his fur prickle uncomfortably. He knew that if they were to travel together, they'd have to trust each other, but how could Muse even start to trust him after he told her about Jake? Maybe he would leave that for later - maybe he wouldn't even tell her at all. Once they found a place to stay, Fang could simply leave Muse there, if it was safe enough for her. But how could he? He suddenly thought that the idea was selfish, and he himself didn't want to let Muse wander off into a place she wasn't familiar with.

As Fang stared into her pale green eyes Muse felt her pelt warm, and she blinked slowly. She didn't quite understand how she was feeling about Fang, but she was sure that she was concerned about this strange tom.
"Tell me what you can."
She mummered, never taking her eyes away from Fang's yellow eyes. She understood not wanting to relive the past but she also knew that Fang needed to open up to someone, otherwise he would never be able to care about anyone, or get over it.
Gently Muse brushed her tail over Fang's shoulder, in smooth rhythmical motions, in an attempt to soothe th upset tom.

Fang almost began to speak at once, but he held himself back. He still didn't know whether or not he should open up to this stranger. Well, she wasn't much of a stranger anymore, btu who knew? She seemed to be kind and comforting - which Fang was somewhat attracted by - but she could be a completely different person on the inside, for all her knew. But part of him felt like he could trust her.
Soft fur brushed against his shoulder, and he immediately drew his lips back in a snarl, baring his teeth in alarm as he rose to his paws and took a few steps away from Muse. Almost immediately he realized that he had been too harsh on her, and his hostile expression turned into that of an apoligetic one. Muse was only trying to help, and he felt angry at himself for not treating her with respect. "Sorry," he mumbled quietly as he sat down beside her once more.
He took a deep breath before starting. "My father died before I was born. I never knew him; his name, what he looked like, what he was like... I never knew what my mother was like either, even though she was alive after I was born," he explained slowly, voice soft and barely laced with loneliness. "My mother went mad after my father died. She never knew where she was, who she was, and who I was. I tried to help her get better, but she never did. She didn't even have the strength to name me." Fang's voice began to crack a bit, but he forced himself to go one, however much the memories caused him pain.
"One day, when I was barely older than a grown kit, I was bringing prey back to where we had our home," Fang paused for a brief moment. "I found her body on the ground, sprawled in an awkward position." His face had darkened into a grim expression, and his claws dug into the soft, muddy ground. "She had killed herself, or so I thought. It looked as though she jumped off a ledge inside the abandoned twoleg nest in which provided for us as our shelter." The sun was just beginning to rise, filling the sky with faint colors of orange, blue and purple. "I... I buried her, and left to live on my own, up until now," he finally finished, feeling surprisingly much more relieved now that he had shared his past with someone else - someone real.
Fang's eyes were clouded with a faint hollowness, dull from the memory of his deceased family. He had turned his head away when he had first began to speak, and was still keeping his gaze low to the ground even after he finished. "I have no family. This is my life now."

When Fang erupted into a snarl, Muse drew her tail back over her paws. She felt as if she pushed to far, and as he sat back down she made no other move to touch him. She listened to his family story, with sympathy stirring in her heart. Even though she didn't know her mother either, she felt worse for him. At least she didn't find her own mother dead. Her mother was safe in some warm two-leg nest and happy.
With a deep breath Muse mewed, "I'm so sorry Fang. That must have been so hard for you. I couldn't imagine burying my own mother." She blinked her pale green eyes at him, before looking back to the sky. Alot was on her mind now, from Fang to her own history.
"Shall we get some sleep?" A deep yawn escaped her before she could stop it, and she hissed in annoyance. Shaking her head as if to chase off the sleep she stood, awaiting his response.

Fang sat in silence for a long time, somewhat comforted by Muse's words, yet also disturbed by them. At least her mother was alive, he thought to himself, barely a spark of jealously stirring at the bottom of his stomache. Though, he forced it away. He wasn't going to be dreaming for things he could never have. At the mention of sleep, he almost thought about declining her offer, thinking that he would experience another nightmare if he went back to sleep. But he was exhausted from lack of sleep, so he figured it would be better to rest for a bit longer, until the sun was higher in the sky.
"Alright," he muttered as he rose to his paws, stalking over to their nest without waiting for Muse. He climbed into the nest and tried to make room for Muse. He curled into a tight ball, relieved that his smaller, more compact frame allowed him to take up a smaller area of space. But having one nest to share wasn't that bad, actually. Fang even enjoyed the warm and reassuring feeling of Muse's soft fur when she had slept beside him the night before. Of course, however, he was never going to admit it to her. It doesn't matter. Why am I even thinking about this? He was beginning to wonder why Muse was such a familiar topic to think about in his mind.
But in truth, he didn't mind thinking about Muse. In fact, he even pondered if she thought about him. Probably about how he had no family and what a piece of trash he was. Surely Muse wouldn't think of me that way... she's better than that, he realized, feeling more confident and comfortable with the idea of traveling with Muse - who was now, no longer simply a stranger.

The pretty grey tabby padded slowly after Fang an allowed him to curl up in the nest first. After he was settled she stepped into the nest lightly and turn around once, settling herself with her flank resting against him. With a deep sigh, she closed her eyes and allowed her mind to race. Fang… he’s so brave. I wouldn’t ever be able to bury my own mother. Oh… why am I starting to think about him so much? He probably never thinks about me… He probably thinks I’m annoying and already in his fur, but he seems so lonely…
Her mind’s protests slowly began to dissolve as she slipped into another dream. Of course Fang was in it, but there was something in his eyes as he looked down into hers that she couldn’t recognize. She felt safe sleeping next to him, and safe anytime that she was with him really.

Exhaustion urged his eye-lids shut as soon as he let his body relax. His muscles were aching as though he had actually been running in real life, even though it was only a dream. Or was it? Fang decided that he would leave the thinking for later, and focus on getting some rest. His ear twitched in slight aknowledgement as Muse settled down beside him, and he felt somewhat uncomfortable when her side was even more pressed against his this time. Slowly, he repositioned himself so that he was somewhat parted from her, but their fur was still brushing even when he was on the edge of the make-shift nest. Whatever. I'll just have to sleep like this for now; and besides, we'll wake up soon enough. he thought to himself.
//later//
Fang woke up adrubtly, his eyelids flinging open in alarm. How long have we slept for? But instead of seeing grass before him, like he had when he'd fallen asleep, he was now completely facing Muse with his neck positioned just where her head was resting, the top of it brushing the bottom of his chin. And to make matters even more unbelievable, his front leg was sprawled around her shoulders, as if holding her in an embrace. Yellow eyes widening even more in embarrassment, Fang quickly scrambled out of the nest, keeping his gaze low to the ground so Muse wouldn't wake up to see his flushed face. Or is she already awake? The thought made him want to die from embarrassment, but when he cast a brief glance over his shoulder, it seemed as though her mind was still in a state of sleep.
While Fang caught his breath, he wondered how he could've possibly gotton into that position. Had he been dreaming again? But of what? And he couldn't, since he had no memory of having any. So how? Why? Did I think for a moment, that Muse was my mother? Actually, that made a bit of sense. Maybe Fang had been dreaming, and he mistaken Muse for his mother. Still, it made him red in the face just to think about it. What would Muse've said if she was awake? Thank god, she wasn't. he thought, shuddering inwardly. Feeling the last bit of shock flow out of his mind, he turned to see what Muse was doing. Still sleeping, he confirmed. She looks so peaceful when she's sleeping, he wondered for a moment, watching the pretty gray tabby with no expression.

Muse had been awake for a few heartbeats. She awakened as soon as she felt Fang move. Her pelt felt warm and worn as if he had had a paw draped across her. Inwardly she flushed, and did her best to keep her breathing calm so she wouldn't embarrass him.
Feeling him watching her she opened her eyes, blinking in the light. Once she realized that he was probably waiting for her to wake up and that he was just being to polite to say so, she scrambled up apologies streaming from her mouth, "Sorry Fang... Why didn't you prod me awake? Oh that's not your job either... you must think I'm such an horrible and lazy cat."
Glancing down at herself she suddenly felt very self-conscious about the state of her pelt, and began nervously licking at, waiting for him tell her to get lost. Maybe he won't ditch me... After all I think that he had his paw draped over me last night. Thought's were racing through her head, as she smoothed out her fur, making it shiny and sleek again.

Fang jumped in alarm when Muse suddenly stumbled out of the nest, barely giving him a heart attack. Had she seen him watching her? Surely not. When she began to apoligize, her words slipped out of her mouth so fast that he almost couldn't understand her. Though after registering what she'd said, he let out a quiet breath of relief. So she has no idea what I did this morning... good. Fang would've been completely humiliated if Muse knew. But he didn't have to be, now that everything was forgotton.
Fang slightly frowned as Muse frantically began to groom her pelt. She doesn't need to groom herself so often. he thought to himself. In his eyes, he thought that Muse was a very attractive she-cat; even if her fur was somewhat ruffled. Her eyes always seemed to glow as bright as stars, even if they were a simple pale-green color. Was she thinking that he would ditch her? The thought made the fur on his shoulders rise. Of course he wouldn't. Thinking about leaving her made him even more opposed, and he roughly shook his head. "Don't apoligize. It's not your responsibility to keep track of time," he meowed dryly, curling his tail around his paws.
After a moment of hesitation, his whiskers twitched and he added, "And stop grooming yourself. You like fine the way you are." Fang looked a bit red in the face when he said it, so he turned to hide his face. "Er, let's get moving." Without another word, he began to make his way through the field and onto a small, dirt thunderpath that wounded across the field.

Muse stopped grooming herself so fast that she bit her tounge after Fang said to stop. She looked up at him embarrassedly, and saw that he was padding away. Jumping to her paws, she trotted after him keeping slightly behing him so she didn't get in his way as she dodge the strange two-leg plants.
"What are these things?" she muttered aloud as she tripped over one and crashed into another. Hoping that Fang didn't see that, she scrambled back to her paws and hurried after him.
"So Fang, if you don't mind my asking.. Where exactly are we going?" she asked hesitiantly, trying to start something of a decent conversation to start the morning off with. Her belly rumbled as she trotted along, and inwardly she wondered if Fang was hungry or if she should hunt on the go and eat quickly. Maybe she could scare of a rabbit for them to share?
