Amberfrost looked over at the trees. The seemed to be urging her on to finish her sentence. Hawkstar's expression made it even harder to not finish the sentence. It seemed full of genuine curiosity. Or terror. Or both. She turned back to Hawkstar and spoke, laughing in irony.
"You. When I see you, Hawkstar, the feeling goes away. As if it were never there in the first place." She looked at the stars and back at Hawkstar. She saw the glint of the moon out of the corner of her eye, and she wondered why it was so bright.
Usually Silverpelt was only this bright when they approved of something, or something was being celebrated. But this time, Amberfrost couldn't figure out why this was.

Hawkstar frowned, dumbfounded by Amberfrost's answer. It was strange, very strange, actually, that she had echoed his exact thoughts. When Hawkstar was with Amberfrost, or even when he thought about her, the hollow spot in his heart vanished.
"That's strange, because it happens to me too, when I'm with you, like right now", he murmured, his voice almost sounding a bit questioning as he looked up at Silverpelt. As if on cue, a blinding light soared across the sky, making Hawkstar's eyes widen in shock and wonder. As the light began to dip toward the horizen, it left a trail of tiny, bright stars which faded a few moments after.
Hawkstar turned to look at Amberfrost, his face lit up with amazement. "Did you... see that?" he gasped, heart beating quicker than usual. He had never seen anything so beautiful or mysterious before, not once in his life. Was it a sign? Was StarClan trying to tell him something?
Notes: Just so 'ya know, that was a shooting star.

The silver Bengal looked into Hawkstar's eyes, then followed his now enormous eyes towards the sky. She saw it, the beautiful blinding light, just before it began to fade away, leaving it's mark between the many paths of Silverpelt. It dawned on Amberfrost that StarClan might actually be trying to tell them something. That something was right. Or give them a sign. It had to be, if they sent one of their own sprawling across the sky.
"That was beautiful! StarClan has to be implying something... but what?" Amberfrost laughed with amazement and turned to Hawkstar, smiling. "What do you think it could mean?" Amberfrost was full of genuine curiosity, but she didn't expect Hawkfrost to know the answer.

Hawkstar's eyes were still wide with wonder when Amberfrost started to speak. He agreed that StarClan must've been implying something... but what? Mind reeling with questions, he shuffled so he could get into a more comfortable position.
But he suddenly felt a rock jab into his side, and he winced in pain, causing him to thrust his muzzle forward and accidentally touch noses with Amberfrost. His eyes locked with hers, and his ears pinned themselves against his skull in embarrassment and surprise. He immediately jerked away from the silver bengal, and to his bewilderment, the rock that had jabbed into his side was gone. Hawkstar attempted to find it, but there was nothing but dust underneath his paws.
"S-sorry, the w-was an accident, I d-didn't mean to!" he stammered hotly, his face red as he tried to imagine the look of shock on Amberfrost's face. He stared down at his paws, then back at Amberfrost. He thought about how the rock disappeared. Suddenly, a breeze ruffled his fur, and it whispered in his ear. He froze. He could almost hear the wind murmuring, "Amberfrost", in his ear over and over. Was he imagining things? Hawkstar's stomach began to churn as he tried to comprehend exactly what was happening around him.
Notes: Wow, he's stupid. StarClan can't make it any clearer that he was meant to be with Amberfrost... xD

Amberfrost awaited his answer. She continued to look at the stars as he began to shuffle himself, probably because the rock was starting to dig into his skin like it was hers. Very uncomfortable. Amberfrost suddenly turned her head towards Hawkstar, as if it had made the decision to move all on its own. Just after she turned her head, so did Hawkstar. Their noses touched.
Amberfrost waited a moment before pulling away in dismay. Hawkstar apologized, but for no reason. Amberfrost smiled understandingly. "No, no! I... it's okay."[/colo] She stammered. It didn't upset her, but she didn't know if she she should tell Hawkstar that she may have actually ENJOYED it. She sat up and kneaded her paws, looking at the sky and Hawkstar.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a glowing bird flew over head. It looked like a hawk, but it was glowing. It flew across the stars and circled above the duo before disappearing into nothing. Amberfrost's eyes widened. She thought she figured out what StarClan was trying to tell them: They were made for eachother.

Hawkstar stared at his paws for a long time, before forcing himself to look Amberfrost in the eye. He didn't want to seem like a complete coward by not looking at her when he spoke. Clearing his throat feebly, his tail-tip twitched axiously. "Er, I think we should head back to camp," he meowed dryly.
It wasn't that he didn't want to spend more time with Amberfrost, it was just that everything that was happening was, to be honest, freaking him out. First an imaginary rock makes him touch noses with her, then Amberfrost's name was whispered into his ear by what he presumed to be the wind. Not to mention the stars were shining so brightly, that it actually hurt his eyes a bit.
Feeling his stomach suddenly churn, Hawkstar flicked his tail quickly as a signal for Amberfrost to follow him not waiting for an answer. As he leapt down from the Great Rock, he couldn't help but feel a strange sensation prickle through his fur when he thought about Amberfrost. She talked to him as if he wasn't her leader, but instead a good friend. This wasn't something that Hawkstar saw often. She also wasn't afraid to voice her opinions around him, and he admired her independence. Suddenly it hit him, and Hawkstar realized that he admired her for being herself.
His heart slowly began to beat faster as he thought more and more about Amberfrost. Finally, he couldn't help himself and he turned around to see if Amberfrost had followed him. His golden-colored eyes sought hers through the dim light, and he could see her outline clearly against the pitch-black sky.
Notes: Derp, sorry for such a long wait.

Amberfrost knew it was probably rude of her to take his prey in the first place, but she hadn't even meant to keep carrying it. She let him take it from her jaws, and flicked her ears as a way of saying she did not mind. She put her rabbit down momentarily to readjust it's positioning and picked it up again. She had a slight feeling opf anticipation, but wasn't sure why. It was as if she were expecting something to happen, but had no idea what it could be whatsoever.
She perked up a little more and padded beside her companion rather than behind him. Amberfrost really did not like following others unless they were showing her something. It made her feel excluded and less important in a way, as if to say "Hey, I have no self-confidence, you can do whatever you want and I'll follow you 'cuz I have nothing better to do!". The silver she-cat, was caught slightly off guard by his question. In a way, she had wanted him to ask her.
Amberfrost smiled through the not-so-fresh-kill. "Hawkstar... I know we just got to know each other, but...I feel as if I have known you my whole life. I feel like I can say anything around you, and you'd understand what I meant. I think you're a strong, individual tom. I've seen you lead, and you'r also a great friend, I can tell. But... I honestly do not want to be friends." Amberfrost's eyes lit up after she paused. She knew what she wanted to say once the words started flowing.
Everything she was saying was true. "I can't think of you as a friend. I just feel... differently. A good different. More than a friend." The she-cat realizede how dumb it may have sounded, but he had asked what she thought of him, and she answered. No harm in giving him what he wanted.
It made her smile slightly when Hawkstar had a trouble with just flat out asking some questions. It was a part of him that Amberfrost knew couldn't be changed, and quite frankly, she liked it that way. He was his own cat. If only he were her cat.

Hawkstar had completely forgottong about the prey they'd caught, and he was just about to retrieve them but Amberfrost was already doing so. It seemed as though the events that occured that night had caused him to be a bit slower than usual while he was lost in thought.
As Amberfrost padded toward him with the prey clamped tightly in her jaws, he thought about what she told him. A fox? He parted his jaws and took a deep breath in, but while there was, indeed, a faint scent of fox, the only scent that greeted him was Amberfrost's. He held his breath for a moment, as if it would preserve the fragrance, but he reluctantly let it out. "Er, the scent is stale," he meowed. He tried to focus, but couldn't. He couldn't keep his eyes off of Amberfrost for more than a few heartbeats as if something would happen to her.
Hawkstar gently pulled his squirrel out of Amberfrost's jaws, and picked it up with his own. It was rude to have someone else carry your prey, and he flicked his ear as if saying he was being polite. Flicking his tail as a signal to follow him, he started back toward camp. He began to think about what Amberfrost thought of him. But as hard as he tried, he didn't have the slightest idea of what went on in her mind. Curiosity finally won him over, and he turned his head to look at her.
"Amberfrost, I... er... what do you think of me?" he meowed, his voice muffled through squirrel fur. His fur prickled nervously and he twitched his tail-tip. This was quite a bold question for Hawkstar to ask, but he just needed to know. He felt so attached to Amberfrost all of a sudden, and he didn't want to get his hopes up if she only liked him as a friend. Wait... why am I worrying if she likes me or not? he suddenly thought, startled. Why would he get his hopes up? What was he hoping for? Though, at the back of his mind, Hawkstar knew what he was hoping for.
He was secretly hoping that Amberfrost felt differently about him than anyone else in their Clan. Being a leader was very lonely, after all. He had to sleep in his own den at night, and he rarely went out on patrols with his Clan mates. But he had chosen his life, his destiny. Now, he was yearning for someone to comfort him, someone who he could comfort back. Not just one of his close friends, like Ravenleap, but in this case, it was Amberfrost who he felt closer to.

Hawkstar almost regret asking some a mouse-brained question, and listened intently as Amberfrost began. His eyes grew wide in dismay when she said she didn't want to be friends. His heart sank, and he thought that that would be it from her. But to his surprise, she went on.
His eyes brightened with a mixture of excitement, nervousness and joy all at the same time. He was speechless for a long time. How was he supposed to reply to that? He couldn't just say that he felt the same. He needed to tell Amberfrost how much she trully meant to him. So the ThunderClan leader took a deep breath in before starting.
"Well... you're different from the others. You're kind, and when we were apprentices, I actually envied you," he joked, turning his head so he could look Amberfrost in the eye. He gulped nervously as he went on. "Er, anyways... I think you're quick-minded and fearless. You're someone who's not afraid to speak up, and that isn't something I see often," he described, growing more and more confident as the words began to form in his mind.
"Amberfrost, er... to me, I also feel like you're more than a friend," he confessed. Hawkstar looked away for a moment, heart pounding against his chest as he debated whether or not to reveal that... that... well, he didn't know how to describe it. Suddenly, he looked at her again, and this time, his mind cleared. For a moment, it was as though everything that had happened back at Fourtrees suddenly made sense. "And... er, well... will y-you be my m-mate?" he blurted out, stopping completely and standing beside Amberfrost. "P-please? I promise to take care of you, a-and I'll always protect you, and I'll always listen to y-you and..." Hawkstar hastily rambled on and on, desperately hoping that Amberfrost would agree.
His ears were furiously hot and were pinned against his head, while his massive paws shuffled nervously in the dirt while he talked on. His gaze avoided Amberfrost, afraid that if he looked at her, he would see an angry or disgusted expression on her face. Despite everything that Amberfrost had confessed just moments before, he still felt like he wasn't good enough for her, like he was only a mouse-brain to her.
Notes: Yay! Confession!

Amberfrost cocked her head as Hawkstar began speaking. She chuckled silently at the joke of him supposedly envying her. Amberfrost jokingly stuck up her nose and lifted her tail like any snooty she-cat would. She turned to face him as he went on, the rabbit swaying slightly as she turned her head. The silver and black she-cat smiled through the prey's fur, hiding a small blush at his next words.
She noticed that he deliberately wouldn't look at her, and figured it was probably because he was going to either tell or ask her something potentially difficult to say. It was just a guess, but she had seen it enough times on cats, especially during Gatherings when cats from different Clan's were conversing with each other and a touchy subject came up.
He looked at her again, and then stopped. She listened intently to his words, her emotions not visible through the rabbit's fur. She set it down and conitnued to listen to Hawkstar. When he asked her to be his mate, he looked away yet again, and Amberfrost was shocked. She felt a srange feeling... relief? Surprise? Excitement? She couldn't figure it out. She just knew she was happy.
The she-cat circled around infront of Hawkstar. She sat down inches from him and placed her tail on his shoulder, as if to say 'Look at me, please." Amberfrost nodded slightly. She said nothing for a moment, but the look in her eyes said everything. "Hawkstar. You don't have to listen to everything I say. I'd much prefer it if you gave me as much trouble as I will give you in the future."
She couldn't explain how happy she was in that moment. She wanted to jump around like an over-excited kit, but she didn't no matter how muc hshe wanted to. She walked to Hawkstar's side again and pressed her side against his lightly, looking where his eyes would be if he lifted them back up.

Hawkstar trailed off when he heard no reply, and he was sure that Amberfrost was going to reject him. His eyes grew dull and he refused to lift them from his paws. He felt her tail-tip brush against his shoulder, but he did nothing because he knew it was all in vain.
He braced himself for her straight-forward "no", but it never came. Instead, Amberfrost said something about Hawkstar not listening to her. He frowned in confusion and anxiety, and he debated whether or not he should look at her. Actually, he didn't want to look at her, since Amberfrost would only see the pathetic look on nhis face. But he knew that he could'nt just leave her hanging, so Hawkstar forced himself to lift his gaze from his paws and fix it on Amberfrost, but when he did, he noticed that she had pressed up against his side.
Dumbfounded, he was at a loss for words. What was she trying to do? Only then did he notice a strange gleam in her eyes, and that alone seemed to have change his opinion and lift his hopes. He recalled what Amberfrost had just said. I'd much prefer it if you gave me as much trouble as I will give you in the future. In the future? "Does... d-does that m-mean... y-yes?" he breathed, his voice shaking.
Hawkstar was so confused that he didn't know exactly what was going on. Was Amberfrost rejecting him? Was she agreeing to be his mate? His mind reeled with a million questions including those. He even began to get dizzy, but his hope kept him standing. He was still staring into Amberfrost's eyes, somewhat comforted by them, as he nervously waited for an answer. Hopefully, it would be the one he wanted to hear most.
Notes: Poor Hawkstar, he only wants to know the truth. :c

Amberfrost smiled. She hadn't intended on freaking him out. She was just afraid of saying anything else in case she turned into some crazily excited kit who can't get a grip. "Yes. How could I say no? You're so kind, handsome, loving, friendly. I could go on." She nodded her head until her vision blurred slightly, tempted to run up and down the Great Sycamore out of excitement. It was far past moonhigh, but the she-cat had a new-found energy.
She thought ahead to the future. She thought about what their Clanmates would say, what the cats from other Clans would say. She wondered if her mother was watching her from StarClan right now, and it hit her. The hawk she'd seen... was that from Amberfur, her mother withing the ranks of StarClan? It had to be, the way it glowed so bright against the already bright stars. They way it just emerged and disappeared out of nowhere. The way Hawkstar had seemed not to notice it?
She thought about the past. She thought back to earlier that day when she had expected to wake up and have a normal, every-day Clan-life sort of day. How wrong she had been. She never would've thought she would end up falling for the Clan leader. Amberfrost also thought about how lonely it must be for Hawkstar. Having to share the den with only himself. Ruling the Clan and not able to ask someone he really, truly trusted about what his deepest, innermost thoughts could possibly mean. Of course he could always ask the medicine cat for help, but it wasn't the same.
She thought back even farther to the day when Hawkstar had been appointed deputy. She hadn't realized how proud of him she was until now, even if she'd hardly knew him. She wondered if he had really wanted to take on the responsibilities of Clan leader. It was not one to be taken lightly. She smiled. In the past she'd been told she was a handful. Hawkstar might be able to handle the Clan, she thought. But can he handle me?

Hawkstar couldn't believe his ears. His eyes widened in a mixture of shock, joy, relief and excitement all at once. His heart went soaring, and he felt lighter than a feather. Mind reeling, he couldn't control himself, and with outstretch paws, the large tom tackled Amberfrost, bowling her to the ground. He wrapped his front arms around her and pulled her into a tight embrace. A deep, loud purr erupted from the depths of his throat and he could feel the smaller body of Amberfrost sink into his soft fur.
When he realized what he was doing, Hawkstar became slightly embarrassed, but he didn't move from his position. "I-I'm sorry, I j-just..." Hawkstar trailed off, unable to speak out of happiness. He rested his chin on the top of Amberfrost's head and simply purred without another word. "Will you ever l-leave me?" he suddenly asked. He suddenly felt like a kit again, frightened when he had to leave his mother and sleep in the apprentices' den when he became one. Hawkstar didn't want Amberfrost to be his mate only to hurt him, but in the back of his mind, he knew that she would run forever if he asked her to.
He recalled every event that happened that day. He had expected it to be just another regular day, with a regular outcome. Assign the dawn patrol, sunhigh patrol, and sundown patrol with extra hunting patrols in between. But something drew him toward Amberfrost, making him ask her to go hunt with him. Then they star-gazed, and the wind whispered her name over and over again in his ear. Maybe they were made for each other, Hawkstar thought, or maybe it was just luck that Ambefrost happened to fall in love with him at the same time that he did with her.
Notes: Lol, he's such a bear.

The she-cat felt different after agreeing. She felt like a whole new cat, a brand-new Amberfrost. She figured it must be because she was tired, or because she couldn't believe she had a mate. I have a mate, and he's the nicest tom I've ever met. What more could I ask for?! she thought. She had next to no time to continue her thoughts, for her mate tackled her, sending her to the ground beneath him. She smiled and laughed, slightly shocked by his action. She guessed she deserved it from when she tackled him way back before the sun had gone down.
Amberfrost did her best to embrace Hawkstar as well, though it was difficult to get her forelegs around the large tom. Her smile broadened when he placed his chin ontop of her head. She could hear his purring, making it harder for her to hear her own. She hadn't realized her eyes were closed until they opened at his question. She didn't even have to think about the answer. How could she ever leave him? She couldn't think of one reason why she would ever want to, or have to.
"I would never leave you, Hawkstar. I would take on the Dark Forest alone before I left you. And even then, I still wouldn't." Amberfrost was sure Hawkstar wouldn't leave her either, so she didn't ask. Instead, she chose to let her words hang in the air, and embrace him tighter. The she-cat purred louder and nuzzled her head beneath his neck.
