Huskykit smiled as Squirrelkit smiled back at her. "You know Squirrelkit, I think you're lucky to have older siblings." the big kit told her friend as they headed towards the area near the camp where the warriors can be found fishing. "I've never had any since I am in my mother's first litter, stuck with my two laughing brothers." Huskykit meowed, a teasing grin on her face. "But sometimes I had someone to look up to. And I think that is really you Squirrely. Yes, I know if you could talk, you would say I'm older, and shouldn't look up to you since you're always sickly, but you're not on the inside. You're really strong, because if you weren't fighting everyday, you would be in StarClan with me dad." Huskykit told the faded ginger kit, sadness flicking her eyes for a brief moment apon talking about her deased father.

A shadow loomed across Squirrelkit and Huskykit, as a low growl sounded from behind them. "How's my brave little warrior doing?" The growl erupted into a throaty purr as Sharptalon gently lifted Squirrelkit off Huskykit's back and set her onto the ground so he could cover her frail daughter in licks. Warmth shone in his rich brown eyes as he gazed down at Squirrelkit. Though, behind that warmth, was anxiety. Sharptalon worried over his kit every day, always wondering how she was doing when he was away on patrols. He was inspired by her determination to get healthy again, and that made Sharptalon confident.

Squirrelkit nodded, she knew she was lucky to have Frostheart. Without her sister, she doubted she would still be alive. Her mother had almost taken it too far, and her sister had saved her. Blinking she looked toward where they had seen Mintkit. At least she didn't have a sister that was following in their mother's footsteps. She would much rather have crazy brothers than Mintkit.
Backup, did Huskykit just say that she admired her? Her friend knew her so well, she had taken the words right out of her mouth. Huskykit thought she was strong? What did that mean? She had always been called weak, not strong. Well there was no doubt about one thing, if she didn't fight every day she would be in StarClan. She had come close on several occasions.
Squirrelkit saw the sadness in her friend's eyes and shook her head. She didn't like seeing Huskykit sad. She bit her friend, not too hard, but enough to try to get her to cheer up.
Speaking of fathers...a huge grin came across her face as she heard his familiar voice. She was once again lifted and felt her own paws on the ground. She purred as he licked her, and she glanced up at him, eyes shining with happiness. Squirrelkit pointed with her tail to the area where there was fish and bounced up and down on her paws. She wanted to learn how to fish like the warriors.

Sharptalon let out a deep-voiced chuckle and touched his nose to Squirrelkit's. "I can tell you're having fun, aren't you?" he purred, nuzzling her cheek. Sometimes he wished that Squirrelkit would talk to him, just say one word, but he knew she couldn't. His daughter was so weak and frail that she didn't have the strength to speak yet. When Squirrelkit gestured to the pile of fresh-kill, Sharptalon shook his head. "I'm sorry, Squirrelkit. I can't teach you how to fish till you get better." he rasped sadly, but a twinkle of mischief showed in his brown eyes. "When you do, I bet you'll be the best hunter in the Clan." he added, a warm smile on his face.
OOC:: Is Squirrelkit not able to talk because she's weak or because she actually can't?

Squirrelkit stood up as tall as she could manage, trying to show just how big she was....not realizing the idea was backfiring on her and it just showed how scrawny and bony she was. She was so glad to have her father, it almost made up for having her mother being so awful to her. It would be awesome if he could stay in the nursery with her all the time and her mother go off and do whatever. Nodding at his question she purred even louder. Usually she didn't get too loud with her purrs, but around Sharptalon, she couldn't help it. She reached up, wanting to bat at his nose, but her paw didn't reach very far, not even to his body.
The frail little kit looked disappointed when she was told he wouldn't teach her just yet. It wasn't her fault she was so sick, she just wanted to be normal! She puffed out her chest, showing him that she was much better, only to sneeze. Well...that sure worked out well. But he was right, she was going to be the best hunter in the clan, she was determined to prove that.
Not only would she be the best hunter, she was determined to be the best fighter. Crouching down, like she had seen the apprentices teach the older kits, she wiggled her bottom and pounced on Sharptalon's paw. His back was just too high up, and his paw was all she could reach. Squirrelkit's mouth then made a noise it hadn't made before, something she had been told not to do, something her mother had severely injured her for doing last time. A mewl of delight had escaped her mouth. Quickly blinking and shaking her head, she hid between her father's paws, shaking in fear. Her mother would find out and it would happen again. Could she survive this time? She barely survived the last time.

Sharptalon purred loudly, his deep voice vibrating through his entire body. When Squirrelkit pounced on his paw, he raised a brow in surprise and was about to praise her when a small mewl escaped her tiny mouth. Before he could say anything though, his frail daughter suddenly vanished from his sight and he glanced down to find her trembling between his front legs. "Squirrelkit, what's wrong sweetheart?" he asked, the mischeif in his eyes turning into worry. He leaned down and groomed her fur gently. "It's all right, I haven't heard your voice in so long!" he reassured, smiling in joy. It was so nice to know that his daughter was strong after all, and she seemed to be able to show it. "Don't worry, nothing is going to happen. Your Clan is proud of you, no matter how small you are right now." he rasped, nuzzling her ear.

Squirrelkit wished she could be brave enough to speak in front of her father more. But her mother could hear her, and Squirrelkit was paranoid of getting so hurt again she wouldn't be able to move. That would only set her back even more, and she would be unable to move for probably a moon. She was somewhat glad he was able to hear her make a tiny noise. That was for him, to show him she wasn't weak at all. But when he began to groom her, the fears began to subside a little and she was able to relax.
She glared up at him as he mentioned her size. She wasn't small! Squirrelkit was trying her best to look angry, but it only made the little kit look cute. But how could he be sure nothing would happen to her? He hadn't been there last time. However, the little kit did enjoy the spot she was currently in. It was nice and warm, and comfortable. Yawning, she almost fell asleep.
But she spotted something that interested her. Squirrelkit had found a beetle. Darting out from Sharptalon, she raced as quick as her little paws would allow to catch it. She pounced, landing on it and turning back to grin at her father. Squirrelkit was proud of herself, was he proud of her?

Sharptalon sighed and rasped his tongue across Squirrelkit's ear once more. When the little kit glared up at him, he faked a dramatic expression and opened his jaws in a gasp. "I'm terribly sorry, I didn't realize that my daughter was already all grown up!" his wide eyes turned into a warm gaze as he purred.
Sharptalon watched as Squirrelkit suddenly shot out from his paws, and felt a hint of worry when leapt into the air, but then relaxed when she turned out to only be pouncing on a small beetle. "Excellent!" he called after her, padding toward his daughter.

Squirrelkit grinned at her father, he really was funny. It was such a relief to see him and not her mother. He brought fun and laughter, while her mother brought pain and hurtful words. Of course she was full grown, couldn't he see how big she was? Then again, it was a major improvement from when she was born. At birth the little kit was half the size, if not more than any other newborn kit. She had so much catching up to do. Now, at three moons, she was about the size of a regular newborn kit. It had taken so much effort to get this far, but she pushed herself to try and get bigger.
The smile on her face grew when she was praised. Daddy had seen her! He was proud of her! Bouncing a little on her paws, she was excited. Now he could see she could be just like any other kit. There wasn't anything wrong with her. The beetle squirmed under her paws and she let it go. Squirrelkit looked up at Sharptalon. She was determined to show him that she could learn how to catch a fish. The apprentices had taught her how to catch beetles, and the tiny kit was grateful that they had. It seemed that all the practice had finally paid off.

Sharptalon laughed and curled his tail around his paws. For a moment, he felt older than he really was, and started to imagine the achiness in his joints. I'm not that old! he snapped to himself in his thoughts, and stretched his legs vigorously.
"You know, I bet your sister would be jealous of you." he suddenly meowed, casting a glance over his shoulder in case his other daughter was right behind him. Naturally, in a litter of two kits, the father would have one favorite and the mother would have hers. Well, Squirrelkit was Sharptalon's favorite and Mintkit was Morningblossom's. He felt claws pierce his heart in sorrow at the thought of Morningblossom, and his memories flew back to the time when they had their first litter together.

Squirrelkit's green eyes blinked up at her father. She had not expected to hear that coming from him. Mintkit would be jealous of her? Why? She was just a scrap of fur, she wasn't as pretty as Mintkit, nor was she as strong. The little kit had always been jealous of her littermate. Mintkit had gotten their mothers love, something Squirrelkit had/probably would never receive. But today seemed like it was turning into the frail kit's better day. She had good days and bad, and although it had been awful to begin with, it was getting better.
When Sharptalon seemed lost in thought, Squirrelkit began to purr and made her way back underneath his paws, into the warm spot she had been in a few moments before. This time, she wasn't scared, she just enjoyed it. Maybe a fun game would be to see if she could climb on him. She had seen other kits climb on their fathers, even though she wasn't 'most kits' she could try it. But a yawn escaped from her mouth. She wasn't used to so much excitement or movement. Her body was wearing out on her.

Morningblossom narrowed her eyes when Mintkit talked to her. "I'll go talk to them," she meowed to her calico kit, there was no warmth in her meow. The queens eyes narrowed even more when she spotted Sharptalon playing with the kits. The furry calico queen stood up and padded over to them "I heard you and Huskykit were teasing your sister." she meowed coldly to Squirrelkit.

Sharptalon purred as Squirrelkit slid in between his front legs and was about to lead her back to the medicine den when he heard a familiar, cold meow sound from behind him. He tensed and turned around to face his mate - or at least, who used to be his mate - and gave her a curt nod. "What? I've seen no so thing. Huskykit and Squirrelkit did nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned." he meowed brusquely, forcing the fur on his shoulders to lie flat.
What would happen now? Usually, things didn't end well when Morningblossom was with Squirrelkit. Especially when the queen was angry, he reflected silently.

Mistkit came up behind her mother, her "sad face" still on. Though her eyes were slightly narrowed. In the sweetest voice the calico kit could muster, she poked her head around Morningblossom's legs. "Huskykit called me a selfish brat." she admited, and it wasn't exactly a lie either. Though, she didn't mention the part where she was mean to Squirrelkit. Mintkit looked up at her father, then quickly down at her paws again. As if she was afraid and nervous.

At the sound of her mother's voice, Squirrelkit instantly became still. The little kit was frozen in fear. She buried herself as deep into Sharptalon as possible, not wanting to hear her mother scold her. Shivering she looked from her mother to her sister, holding back her whimpers of fear. But daddy was sticking up for her. This caused her to grin a little. She finally had someone on her side.
Squirrelkit giggled a little, letting a small sound escape her mouth as she heard Mintkit. Her friend had only spoken the truth. Looking nervous, she wasn't about to let her sister get away this time. Huskykit was right, she had to stand up to her sister. "You....were.....mean.....to....me. She....my.....hero."
It was the first time the little kit had actually said more than one word, or made any sound. It may have not been perfect, and she stumbled on almost every word, but she had spoken, and actually looked somewhat proud of herself.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
